gravellmao ok. those p2 files just suck so much ass trying to import and organize and label and shit.
and this is coming from someone who'd prefer the pain in the ass of develop/scan film or capturing tapes to the digi alternatives.
PondyCrewim converting about 40 min of tape I shot today and its hell. Need to use a mid 2011 HP laptop because it has a 4 pin firewire while my desktop that I edit on doesn't. 40 minutes to convert to digital, 40 minutes to export as an mp4 just so I can get it on my desktop. P2 bitrates will be higher, along with not needing to use firewire and go through usb 2.0 instead. Yeah an HMC is the goal, but getting an hvx for 250 bucks with 145 hours is a win in my book. Anything to get outta tape
gravelhaha fr? that’s a dope come up. why you tryna get outta tape? i’m just starting to get into tape. shot 7 tapes on a dadcam this year and similarly had to use my 2012 macbook to capture them because it has the firewire port and i wasn’t about to buy multiple adapters for my newer macbook.
PondyCrewI shot this whole last season on tape. Its not awful but its not fun. Definitely a good thing to experience. I just hate getting home from a long ass day of shooting then having to go through the pain of converting. I've had days where I've filled 2 60min tapes and have like 3 hours worth of running my cam to get them digitized when I get home. That and tapes not being made anymore its really not worth it. Expecting my HVX to still be a fun old cam while having the ease of p2. Can even shoot tape on it so I might torture myself with that every once in a while
graveltrue! i didn’t shoot as much skiing at spots so the tapes would last me a month usually. but i can imagine the nightmare of frying a tape in a day at a long spot. i had no idea the hvx could still do it to tapes. do you just record over your old tapes or do you use freshies? how many uses can you get outta one tape?

weastcoastThat’s a steal, props for going after it. What kinda lens are you using? I couldn’t remember if the hvx also had the 72mm filter size or not.

WoFlowzSee I wanted a HVX until I found out how big of a pain P2 cards can be
PondyCrewAfter shooting tape this last season, I can honestly say p2 is just as easy to use as an sd card

WoFlowzDo you have IMovie or Final Cut Pro? Because I read that using P2 with I movie isn’t doable for some reason
gravelthere's no way it is.
i don't have an HVX but was using my friend's HVX footy this year that came off a P2 card. that shit sucks, you need to leave everything in the CONTENTS folder to import it to premiere, can't change the clip names in finder, only in premiere, audio and video tracks are separated so you can't ever preview video with sound, there are 2 audio tracks instead of 1 which just makes the editing itself more cumbersome. i'm not sure if there are different generations of the P2 footy that make it more streamlined but if not it's a huge waste of time and is organizationally confusing. it doesn't make sense to compare it to sd cards, sd card footy is so easy to work with in comparison.
PondyCrewI get great sound on playback? Tb to last season when I had to manually align my audio with the video cause something would get fucked up with the tape. I just made a separate folder for HVX files on my hdd and I couldn't be happier just being able to drag clips straight into premiere from there and start editing. Once everything's copied, just format the card and your good to go again.
