Replying to The next big trend in skiing
"New wave" skiing has been around for a while now and people are starting to ask what's next, and I think the answer is that skiing's gonna have a punk phase. I have a couple of reasons for this
1. Skiers are already listening to entry level bands
I'm seeing a lot of people already starting to kind of listen to punk on NS. In one of the music threads recently I saw several people say that Dead Kennedys were on their skiing playlist. Everybody's listening to Mission of Burma now too because of Zootspace, and even though they're pretty melodic, accessible post-punk they're definitely not poser shit. I've also seen a few edits in the last couple of months with Blink 182, and even though I hate that kind of stuff a lot of people get into "real" punk later because of it. Pop punk is really popular on Tik Tok too, which I think will get very few people into real punk but it's big enough that it'll probably be some people.
2. Skateboarding
Skateboarding and punk have been connected since they both first started, but somehow punk is the only thing skiing hasn't stolen from skateboarding yet. A lot of trends in skiing are skateboarding trends that we were just really late to pick up so it's only a matter of time.
3. Child Labor
I think Child Labor are ahead of this trend and they'll be the ones to make it really a thing. Today they dropped a bunch of merch with a parody of the Dystopia logo (Dystopia used to be my pfp +clout) and they've used Apartment 213 and Earth Crisis songs in edits (my username is an Earth Crisis song +clout). Keeshlife has been doing it for a long time too with Rudimentary Peni and X-Ray Spex songs. People are going to start imitating the pros soon enough. Eventually there's gonna be straight up crust punk and powerviolence songs in edits even from people who don't give a shit about punk.
I don't think this trend will totally take over skiing, but within a couple years there's gonna be a legit subgenre of skiing with punk and hardcore kids. It'll probably be the next big recognizable era of park skiing. So go trade your Harlaut pants for a homeless guy's jeans and some patches. Just remember EdensDemise was doing it before it was cool
What are your thought on this, am I just making it up based on a few isolated examples or will it become a major trend?
