Replying to Bike boom
We all know it’s annoying asf to not be able to get a bike or part and all having it be expensive. But the fucking amount of use the trails have been getting is nuts. Even in shitty Buffalo NY. The local Chapter of IMBA does some work but nothing more than drainage and the occasional berm or two. So me and my buddies will go out and fix berms, jumps, transitions, bench cuts, trim back shrubs etc. The small amounts of decent single track we have just can’t keep up with this and neither can the few flowyier trails and the freeride and jump lines. I’ve rebuilt one lip twice this year and I think when I get home from my trip it’s gonna need it again. Another berm is gonna need a second rebuild because people don’t know how to not skid into corners. The worst part is no one but us and a small group of older guys have been doing any work to this stuff that’s frequently ridden. It’s so much work and taking 4hrs out of my free time to fix this stuff so I have something decent to ride just for people to ruin by the next week is annoying asf. There doesn’t even seem to be anyone offering to help. The one day we were digging and people decided to stop and tell us how we weren’t building stuff right and how we should add berms to other spots of the trails. We had two empty fucking shovels next to us also which I told them to grab and help us or do it themselves. It’s so fucking stupid and annoying. I couldn’t get the bike I had really wanted thanks to this bike boom, the trails are busy and ridden to shit, I can’t afford any upgrades on my bike because prices keep rising. This bike boom sucks.
Now here’s my next rant. There’s a bike park opening near me the weekend of the 4th. Well it’s been getting a great bit of publicity in my area. Was super fun to just climb up and ride along with the secret and illegal trails at this place also. And I’m afraid all these people are gonna make it busy as fuck there and ruin all these amazing trails that are never busy. Maybe I’m just a stuck up asshole
anyways that’s my 1 am Ted talk feel free to add your thoughts, opinions or experiences here also.
