eheathI think comparing working at a ski resort to a fast food restaurant is a little bit of a stretch, the fast food workers should make more, their job is way worse, have you worked fast food?

theabortionatorYeah running a 300 thousand dollar machine building stuff where if you fuck it uo somebody could get seriously injured should pay less than taco bell for sure.
Also the state minimum wages were getting pretty close to that in many western states. To little to late. Fuck bobby katz and fam. Fuck vail.
I did almost do summer snowmaking work at Northstar but that was because it was all people I'm friends with and they were going to pay me okay.
It all depends on the mtn and the job, but they're straight boning people. The ski industry pays like ass in general but Vail takes it to another level. VR is a dumpster fire. Crazy why people keep leaving. I guess they must be lazy.
SkiBum.Nope. Just hate Vail. And like seeing them PR the shit out of making wages what they should be and should have been. Burger prices will now be $27 each instead of $25
eheathmuch higher paid and more experience workers maintain the lifts and you know this.
BigPurpleSkiSuitNot what I hear from my friend who is a lift mechanic at bird

eheathYou're being dramatic about describing a liftie here, they just press buttons, much higher paid and more experience workers maintain the lifts and you know this.
Utahs min wage is 8.25 btw.

a_burgerNah sounds like he’s talking about snowcat operators, which are probably some of the lowest paid equipment operators in the US compared to how complex the machines are. Good luck breaking 20 an hour unless you can run literally everything (zaugg, winch, etc) and have been there for years
anyone see that Carinthia is all paid parking on weekends now? Vail really knocking it out of the park in terms of guest experience right now
EvanMeyerIve worked fast food and it’s not way worse than working at a mountain as you put it. Yeah it’s not fun but it’s also not physically exhausting work. Lifties, park crew, cat ops, lift maintenance etc all get paid dog shit wages and are usually busting their asses for 8+ hours a day. Resorts can be pretty shitty but fast food is not that hard either. regardless of whether you think it’s a stretch or not, paying people minimum wage in some of the most expensive towns across the country is asinine when corporations like vail and powdr are raking in over a hundred million annually.
eheathYou're saying youd rather work at mcdonalds than work year round outside for 15/ hour? Who cares if its more 'exhausting' its a way better position with much better potential to move up into a better position.
I'm not saying resort workers shouldn't get paid more, just not the same as fast food in my eyes. Only thing worse would be shoveling shit at the circus.

SFBv420.0damn ya gots to be quick to gits in before eheath on a vail thread
like fat bois to cake quick
is there an over under on the # of posts he jacks the vail corporates johnson for them yet?
put me down for over 25
eheathFair, I'll give you that, but the lowest paid are grooming mazes and green runs, there are still higher paid groomers for the harder/more dangerous work.
EvanMeyerwork on those comprehension skills there champ don’t think I ever said I’d rather work at McDonald’s. Already did that shit over a decade ago and to say fast food workers deserve more than a resort employee is fucking comical. Have you ever worked fast food or at a resort? $15/hr is still hardly a livable wage and I wasn’t even making that as a resort employee this past season. Our highest paid cat ops were barely making $17/hr and if you think that’s reasonable for operating heavy machinery youre either delusional or have never worked construction. bobcat operators start at like $25/hr and that’s half the size of a snowcat.
SkiBum.Not much more. Grooming operators make roughly half of what a hoe operator can make in construction.
theabortionatorYeah running a 300 thousand dollar machine building stuff where if you fuck it uo somebody could get seriously injured should pay less than taco bell for sure.
TRVP_ANGELHomie thats why the machine costs 300k and not 50k. Its a fixed one time cost they make now so they can then pay absolute nothing for lifties
BigPurpleSkiSuitLet us all agree that while Vail is not the devil incarnate, they could certainly afford to pay their employees better wages to live in the high priced ski towns and take a hit on their stock price when the shareholders see the employees are actually being paid something.

DolansLebensraum”THANK YOU UNCEL DOLAN”
but seriously if you think ski companies dont tune in to ns from time to time youre an idiot.
eheathThey don't.
mrk127I knew grooming wasn't great money but fuck I didn't think it was that close to minimum wage starting out
SkiBum.Nope. Just hate Vail. And like seeing them PR the shit out of making wages what they should be and should have been. Burger prices will now be $27 each instead of $25
zuesoh this is great. Now instead of $200 I can spend $250 on a ticket. So much progress being made.
mrk127fuck off, don't ski the mega resorts then
mattytruone problem with this line of thinking is that the prices at these resorts inevitably affect prices at smaller resorts so it becomes a problem for the entire industry, same thing goes for pay and stuff
theabortionatorI was talking about snowcats but even lifties should get paid a little better.
Sure I'm being dramatic but Vail is a shit employer, pays shitty, treats employees shitty, and then wonders why people always leave.
freeballerDoes Vail wonder or worry about employees always leaving? I don't think so. Every year, there are enough employees to keep their resorts running. If the wage they offer is so low and unlivable, no one would work for them, but yet every season skier numbers seem to be up and the lifts are spinning. Go check out their stock price. I personally think they should pay higher wages, but it's hard for me to see how they have any incentive to do so unless they can't staff their resorts. Paying customers seem to be happy with the service provided.

DolansLebensraumHaha. Evan you gotta let your inner megalomaniac out.
but seriously i think youre selling ns short.
i wouldnt be surprised if over the years there have been many execs emailed a link to an ns thread by their employee/coworker etc.
if the execs are so stuck up they have never given ns a time of day im sure it at times has at least pained them to ignore us. I bet some of the aliases that have poked their heads up over the years were ski company execs going in for some pwnage.
and the kids/grandkids of ski execs who skiied park growing up probably showed daddy and grandpa ns threads all the time.
if ns was some abandoned incel shithole nobody cared about then there wouldnt have been 1500 ppl begging you to ban me for the past 10 yrs.
its foolish to underestimate the reach of any website that has (had) reasonable numbers and cultural relevance.
im fucking famous evan. Everytime i go to my car to grab my bowl theres literally an army of 16 yr old girls hurling their pussies at me begging for an autograph. You dont have to believe me. Dolan is fucking real.
just kidding :)
but i think before ns became this putrefied old corpse that only bundyish characters like dolan still want to stick their dicks in it was definitely a factor in the freeskiing culture. 10 yrs ago this place was pretty happening.
dogfartstaintBruh lift attendants are always high and chill as shit they’re just there to press buttons. Like Evan said, working fast food is way harder than being a lift attendant ever will be. Also, to your point about being in control of lives, pool lifeguards also hold the duty of saving lives but get paid shit wages, why? Well, that’s because they sit in a chair all day hardly doing anything. Also why is everyone malding at Vail specifically here, big chains like Target just went to $15 minimum wage and everyone’s applauding them, but when Vail does it they’re the antichrist. Being a low level service employee is not meant to be a lifetime job.
r00kiePay is not dependant on how 'hard' a job is. It's dependant on how many people are willing to work the position compared to how employees are needed. Labor is subject to the same laws of supply and demand that goods and services are subject to. Park crew pays less than fast food cause more people want to work there so supply exceeds demand, lowering cost.
DolansLebensraumThis is true but there indeed is a correlation between job hardness and pay.
its not the whole story, but its part of it
