Does p-tex fix really big scratches?

So i was watching the deep forest ski videos by mike carmazzi ( highly recomend you go watch them) and i was wondering if you could fix the big scratches with p-tex you get while skiing on fallen trees.

I asked my dad if i could fix em with melting some p-tex on em and scraping the excess away, but he said that if you melt the p-tex into the scratches, it will not like actually combine with the base of the ski, so if you press a needle into the p-texd area, and you take it out again the new p-tex will just come out with it.

I just wanted to know if this is true, because i really want to ski like that next season.

I think the biggest risk of grinding trees would be ripping out an edge, rolling your base edge under foot or smashing a sidewall from snagging or impact. You can try to fill anything with PTex and see if it holds but no gaurantee it’s just a filler to keep water out of the core basically

You can almost use some combo of ptex, rivets, jb weld, replacement edge sections, etc to fix the thrashing you give a ski, but that doesn’t mean it will hold for the rest of the season (the worse the original damage and the sketchier your repair the more likely it is to fail).

if sounds like you want to thrash your shit in a way that might make a pair of rock skis a better choice then your relatively new setup. If you have an old pair of skis still mounted up, send it and who cares if you can fix it well. if not, maybe try and get a shitty pair of skis to abuse.

These are core shots? No, PTEX won't do it. If they're just big ass scratches but not core shots then PTEX will hold.

I always fill smaller scratches with p-tex. One time I hit a stone with my K2 Shreditors, which luckily left the edge where it was but scraped the base to the core. About 1 1/2inches long and 1/2inch wide. I asked a friend who owns a ski shop and he told me to try 2 component glue or resin. gotta say it did the trick and lasted solid 2 1'2 seasons. For a powder ski definitely a good idea.

I’m also in a similar situation... I have like giant core shot and am contemplating doing either a metal grip or base weld then ptex on top or maybe a marine epoxy or Gflex, I feel like a epoxy would be better because they are Vishnu’s and they are flexy boys so I didn’t know if that would effect whatever I put in the core shot. But it’s summer so I have time to figure it out but,
i have always wondered how the bottom their skis looked. like mike carmazzi or any of the zootspace guys

I replaced ~16 inches of edge underfoot with 12 screws underfoot and 8 in the sidewall to seal it all up. West Systens G/flex was utilized throughout every step.
P-tex works for small base scratches, but might not have the structural support an epoxy would (not an engineer, just another idiot).
The pictures don't do the repairs I've made justice, but the epoxy is harder than the ski base and seems impervious to scratching and cracking.
