If you think about the core basics of things, technically you could live without all the commodities in life. But it wouldn't be easy. Only issue is you'd need a place to squat/set up camp. Then you'd need skills to forage for food and/or hunt or fish if legal. Then you have to worry about safety. If you get hurt, ur fucked. If you get attacked, it's your responsibility to help yourself. Goodbye life expectancy of 2020, hello life expectancy of 1800.

Over time society has evolved into this machine where we all contribute our little portion to society and get various things out of it. Hey high and think about all the aspects. Capitalism has led to large socioeconomic gaps in communities. Without a job, good luck getting weed unless u grow it. Good luck getting food unless you find it, grow it, or herd/hunt/fish it. Good luck cooking that food since fires are prohibited in many places. Good luck finding somewhere to live. Forget medical care unless ur a bum drain on society and even then you'll still be fucked. Hope you don't mind not showering.... And I'm talking about living on your own with your only responsibility that is to living; it sounds better than it probably is. And showering at the ymca and shelters and soup kitchens don't count- ur still reliant on others at that point.

It can be done, but not comfortably which is sad. The days of homesteading are over.

Best chance if you want a lifestyle as close to this as possible is to eliminate all your debt. Then work just enough to survive without all the glamorous "necessities". Or work hard one season of the year and explore the other part of the year. Or open a restaurant and only operate 0600-1400 M-F. Or do what you love for a career so it doesn't feel like work. Or retire early but who wants to waste their youthful years..

Instead of each person doing everything for themselves, they split up the chores. 1 person farms, 1 person hunts, one person takes care of the babies, 1 person gathers fruit, and one person is a complete fucking deadbeat sack of shit who trolls the fuck out of everybody else. I have thought about this a lot, especially when I’m unmotivated to do shit, it’s a nice comfort though thinking about what it would be like to be a duck or some shit that just hangs out with the flock and survive, there’s something very appealing about living a simple live of survival but then I think about skiing and if I was a duck or a monkey or lizard then I would have feet to wear ski boots meaning I couldn’t go skiing. Which is why I have fallen slave to hrly/wage system instead of dropping out of hs and running away. I get this feeling a lot of just wanting to transform and escape reality
