Buying new skis

Hey guys I’m looking into buying a new pair of skis for the next season. As of now I’ve been skiing on a pair of Rossignol twin tips that are 149cm length. I’ve had my old skis for awhile and decided I want a new pair this year. I am about 5’11 and 160lb. There is this pair I’ve been looking at on Facebook marketplace. It is a pair of Line afterbangs 166cm. They look like good skis just the edges are a bit rusty, only thing is no bindings are included so id have to just put my old ones on. Does it cost a lot to get bindings mounted or should I keep looking? I’ll include some pics of the skis.

166 is pretty short if you’re 5’11 I’d recommend finding something longer. Also what bindings do you have at the moment?

They Are Marker but I don’t know what kind exactly my parents got them for me.

Homie if you’re 5 foot 11 you most likely weigh more than those bindings can really handle. Look into new bindings with a din higher than a max of 7 (something that goes to like 13/14) and look at skis in the 178-183 range

I’ve been skiing for a long time I just always got the hand me downs for my brothers so I never really looked deeper into specs until now. This last season I was probably 5 ft 10 at 155 lbs and skied on these, the skis are 148cm which I know now is really short for me and the bindings seemed fine at only 5.5 DIN, I hit jumps and some rails and they stayed on good but came of if I got twisted up. I will keep your suggestion numbers in mind thanks!

You need longer skis regardless, and the more aggressive you become over time with your park skiing your din will change. You still need a binding that can adequately handle your size, and those bindings are kids bindings from marker. Upgrade to like a marker griffon or something.


then you’ll b golden. I love the afterbangs, I wish they were longer I would have bought em lmao. But for sure look into new bindings and longer skis

The bindings look like Marker free 7s. I think you might have outgrown them. Also, you are too big for 149 or 166cm skis. Also, those afterbangs have awful reviews. Unless it’s an absolutely killer deal, you can get better skis for a better price in a better length.

you want around a 180 cm ski don’t just think about the suggestion... you need it. and you need new bindings too. the tyrolia attack 13 is only around 100-150 and is perfectly fine. if you get a 166 you are gonna regret it once you learn more about skis. also you will more than likely break those bindings. i don’t know if you have any around but go to ski shops and make connections you can get a good deal on skis and bindings very easily in my experience with the right shop. if you’re on a budget then continue looking on ebay and such but come back here with the skis you find so we can help

I have one ski shop around me but they are only open 1 Day a week now that season is over but I will make sure to go down there. I will continue looking on eBay and such, thanks for your help I appreciate it.

What everyone else has said. I'm 6ft 3in and used to ski 174cm, switched to 188cm and the difference is brilliant.
