I never have but it's an anesthetic. They use it for surgeries.

I shot a dog up with it once while helping my grandpa cut a baseball size tumor off a dog.

the only time I've heard about someone being put on ketamine by a hospital was this dude I met who was canyoneering in southern utah and fell and fucked up his leg or something. He got taken to some rural hospital where they basically put him into a k hole as anesthetic. dude was mormon before that happened but after the k hole he decided it was bullshit and now hes exmo

Tanner has a history with opioid pain killers. He cannot go back to it, as explained in “Like a Lion”. Ketamine is an unusual pain killer, but not unheard.

Yeah my friend broke his leg skiing once and they had to k-hole him at the hospital to get the boot off

That makes sense.

Good on him not wanting to risk it. I've had too many friends die from that shit. One was clean for a long time, tore his knee in mid feb, got prescribed pain killers. Was dead by may.

On the one hand I hate how liberally they were handing shit out and now how hard it is to get one sometimes when you have obvious broken bones, but whatever. I'd rather it be like this than see as many people get accidentslly hooked.

I got lucky. I was prescribed big ole vicodins for my back and femur. I was 17. I couod have just as easily gotten hooked and my life coukd have been a different story. Luckiky i sold them to buy weed after not two long but even that initial week or two.

I was a little pissed the last time I broke something because they forgot about me multiple times and it was like hours later i got a percocet. I almost didnt even want it at that point but took it just because. But again, would rather that than hsve them hand them out to everybody.

It sucks. A bunch of people that got addicted weren't even your weed smokers, they weren't trying this and that. They just got injured and boom, fucking hooked. Or the fact that everyone's medicine cabinets had oxys etc.

Idk our healthcare industry is prettt shot. Hopefully we go universal soon and put some more money into treatment etc.

I was on it for getting my broken arm put back into place. You literally are like trapped in your brain and you feel like your aware of what’s going on but your body has complete control of what you say and do. It felt like I was watching my self say and do whatever from inside my head.

Now that you describe it, I might have had it once during surgery prep/pre-surgery. I felt it literally go up my arm from the IV and rush into my brain. Then I tried to keep telling a story to my mom and I was like “whoaaaa”. Then they put me under later once I was in the operation room.

Ketamine is not an opiate and the way he is using it is not for pain management. Many people associate it anecdotally with being a horse tranquilizer, but in actuality it is one of the most used drugs in hospitals for emergency anesthesia because it doesn't cause respiratory depression.

There's been a lot of very promising results that have come out of Ketamine treatments for depression, so I assume it was probably to help him cope with post injury depression.

The most interesting part is that the relief Ketamine provides from depression lasts weeks, much longer than the duration of action for the drug (which is only a few hours at most).

I've been stoked to see Tanner getting sober and healthy, and hope this should help him get through this injury.

I tried k when I was younger, went to the mall in a k hole, discovered I don’t like hard drugs for recreational use
been given Vicodin for broken bones etc, never had the slightest urge to continue use after pain was gone so I think our healthcare system would benefit greatly if we could identify those with addictive tendencies or some sort of psychological or better yet dna trait that pre determines they will become addicted so lives need not be lost needlessly, and some drugs should just not be made but $ matters more to the folks up top than my or anyone else’s lives

Exactly. He's 4 months out from his injury. He states in the vid he's taking the ketamine because of the state of mind he's in not being able to do what he lives to do. I assume from that that he's struggling with depression or something along those lines. Hope he get's through this and back to skiing ok because skiing just isn't as cool without him around.

A ton of EMS agencies use ketamine as a painkiller in lieu of opiates. I think it has to do with less risk of respiratory depression. And I also think there are sedation cocktails used regularly involving ketamine.

could you just not find it or was it hard cut with something else? I've never done or even seen k so idk how it even works

Not sure if there were labs in Pakistan that got shutdown or what. And china wasn't putting anything good put. There were weird analogues or just weird k around but you really couldnt find anything. It went from everywhere to nowhere.

I had a ketamine drip all last week while in the ICU for my broken neck. They used it in combo with a muscle relaxant drip because nothing else was touching my pain. I had no dissociative effects because it was a constant low dose but it sure helped for the pain. I'm in the medical industry for my career anyways and its kinda a wildcard pick to help with people where other drugs are not working as well. Some people swear by it though.

Ketamines actually pretty safe for medical professionals to use I've heard of dudes getting 10x the prescribed amount in combat situations or etc and surviving. In emergency med scenarios ketamine is a pretty go to medicine
