animatorThis may be a reach but does anyone here have experience fishing south florida on a fly rod, specifically the keys? thinking of going down there for a day or two and just sort of exploring and maybe doing a day with a guide. mainly looking for guidance on 11wt rods since I dont own anything bigger than a 10
VTshredder69Decent luck with the carolina rig setup
animatorFly fishing bro not conventional fishing haha
.frenchyi do literally every other kind of fishing besides fly, really want to get into it targeting bass (smallmouth, largemouth and stripers)
animatorFly fishing for bass is awesome. I’m in NH and fish largemouth all spring, Striper all summer and smallmouth pretty much spring and summer. It’s a ton of fun, really adds a different element to bass fishing.
.frenchyhave you ever targeted carp on the fly?
animatorGot into it last summer, it’s super hard. Fish that are in fly fishing accessible water (as in, clear, shallow, slow current) are impossibly spooky and extremely intelligent. They are able to tell almost immediately that a fly is in fact not a good source. Presentation is paramount with them. I hooked one all summer and I swore it was going to snap my 8 weight in half. I didn’t land it unfortunately but it was unbelievably strong, I estimated it at only 8-9 pounds. These fish are very quickly becoming known as freshwater bonefish because of the similarities in presentation, location and fighting style. Super fun fish!
