Jihaddist_jibberIt's not supposed to be a weenie measure contest were basically every weenie is average.
theabortionatorIt's cold out here fam. Also it's all about the bumper sticker or throwing some insta posts. That said after never making it over from NY when I lived on the east coast and getting fucked up and having surgeries the season I lift in NH, I'd def do a mellow line and post something on the grams about finally making it.
But yeah. We always just wanted to go and hike for some late season snow. There terrain looks fun, and there's not a ton of big mountain vibes on the east coast, but it's not anything crazy compared to some rowdy shit other places. It still seems like a gem though for the ice coast. It's just those assholes claiming the fuck out of everything that ruin anything fun.
Also did you just go to tucks? What happened, who had a "I ski tucks" bumper sticker on the ass of their ski pants and threw half a ham sandwich at your face as they skied by. Then taunted you after your run.
But for reals what happened? Or is this just a general observation.
Jihaddist_jibberthis is mostly a general observation. Nothing toxic has happened to me actually at Tucks since I don't really care for the weather when I go, so it's more the gritty skiers there and not the "oh I want a pretty insta pic". But over the last season I have noticed a lot of very pretentious people on social media talking about how they've achieved way more in life than the guy next to them just cuz they've skied tucks...
animatorI fucking love that you called out AD fanboys. He’s actually a super nice dude but I get so many people in the shop every year that come in and name drop him like, “oh yeah we saw Andrew up there, do you know him?” Like yes I fucking know him buddy shut up about it already.
TOAST.Nice claim, buddy
animatorDidn’t mean to make it sound like a claim just because most skiers in NH know who he is, people think they’re part of some club or something lol
pinkcamo1000tucks is weird cause you can be a total kook and not even a very good skier and rip it on a nice spring day
or you can be an experienced backcountry skier and fucking die there no problem on a gnarly day
idk I've seen crazy shit happen there even on nice spring days with icefalls, I saw a chunk of ice the size of a dinner table and about a foot thick roll through the bottom of the bowl. I'm definitely not disagreeing with you - tons of kooks ski tucks every year. But it's still fucking gnarly.
Craw_DaddyI'm just gonna say it. The west side of the Eisenhower Tunnel isn't that hard. Sure it's steep and its open, but 95% of the lines won't even trigger an avalanche that slides onto the interstate. It's these people who breed the "I've skied I70, I'm the best skier on the mountain" type of people, and I don't think anyone in truth likes talking to these people. Sure there's some gnarly shit at Eisenhower, per say the $168,000 fine barely no one ever gets, or the much more technical stuff at Coon Hill, but the people who ski that stuff are mostly humble about it (except A****** D****** fan boy type people). It's not supposed to be a weenie measure contest were basically every weenie is average. There's much harder and more adrenaline pumping lines in CO if your willing to do 40mph in your wrx, but are they are beautify and fun to climb as Loveland ski area? no, they are for when you want to test your limits and maybe shit your pants. Eisenhower is about a great hike, meeting great people, and getting some nice unique lines in your day.

I don’t understand why so many people name drop him and think that just because you know his name you have clout, it’s so fucking annoying. But yeah we get people who come in and brag about Tucks too and I’m like dude, my friends at Plymouth State all hike it and ski down on their detuned park twigs, your ultralight skimo weight weenie setup that you paid 3 grand for means fuck all to me.
Sorry for the rant lmao but this gets me just because it happens so much, working at a shop in NH. Tucks is dope and it’s a vibe but I don’t need to hear about how you skinned up and took 5 hours to ski down Left Gully 🤷♂️
vermontanaThe amount of people there when I've gone this spring has been absolutely insane, like not even an enjoyable experience when you have to park way down by Wildcat and then wait for stop-and-go hiking traffic on the trail and most of the bootpacks. Granted they were gorgeous weekend days, but it makes me wonder if they're going to implement some sort of permit system for the spring if visitation keeps increasing.
Park.Who is AD?
207Gonna start with this disclaimer- AD has FAR more technical skills in mountaineering than I'll ever have, and is a very competent skier and a downright sender. He's skied Kathadin which is rad, and skis some gnarly lines in the white that are essentially just ice falls. Not to mention a lot of these zones have zero beta about them. That being said, I really don't understand why everyone on the East is sucking his dick so hard. He basically just ice climbs to ski ice all winter in Tuckermans and a few other drainages. No epic powder shots, no first descents, just your average mountaineering on the East Coast. I understand that these Boston finance bros think skiing Tuckermans Ravine is basically the same as skiing The Grand but jesus christ, he's not really skiing anything crazy and he doesn't even ski pow. I guess my point is that's he's one in a million back east, but out west he'd really just be your average everyday backcountry skier.
Jihaddist_jibberYes and no. AD is a good skier but he is not one in a million and he will not be just an average skier out west. The east coast breeds much better skiers than the west coast, because on the east coast we learn how to straight line icy moguls for fun because we don't get powder days every week. I've heard so many west coast skiers complain about how the conditions suck there, when those same exact conditions on the east coast would be an awesome day. The west coast is definitely superior ski terrain, but you don't become a good skier just skiing powder all day and staying inside when there's a tiny bit of ice on the ground.
anders_avideo of said ravine ?
people "ski black runs" but unless you can do edgelock carves without bleeding speed, you cant claim it!
Reine barkared can claim everything.

BraybladeI grew up in the northwest so I might be unqualified to talk about this but I feel like this is not true. You get good at skiing big terrain by skiing big terrain. The west also gets shit conditions and hard snow, sure it's not bulletproof ice but it's not easy to ski especially when the fog is so thick you can't see more than 100ft. You could make the argument that the midwest/east breeds better park skiers because of rope tows, night skiing, or the community aspect but I don't think a kid that grew up straight-lining icy moguls could hold a candle to somebody that grew up skiing the ridge at bridger or touring in the Tetons. To say "the east breeds much better skiers than the west coast" is a pretty bold claim IMO

skiermanBecause its the BC, BRO! Because its a giant nasty bowl, BRO. Because black bears, BRO.
snomasterIt's actually close to 60deg in a few spots.
Most Jerrys can hop turn down the main line in the spring.
But there are cool lines with risk and reward factors.
Also, it takes real skill to avoid Jerry cartwheeling with ice axes flailing straight at the bootpack.
And people die up there.
Notaskibumyes but why do they die? it looks pretty open, as long as you dont hit a rock while tomahawking you should be fine
