little1337I saw one of these the other day and was blown away. How is this a Mustang? Why not just put the Ford logo on it?
BrandoComandoDoug Demuro explained it pretty well.
Ford (like most manufacturers) realizes electric is the future of cars. However, many manufacturers are having a hard time competing with Tesla. Non-Tesla EVs like the Toyota Prius EV, Chevy Volt, and Chevy Bolt are having a hard time on the market because they aren’t “cool” like Tesla. The Ford brand doesn’t inspire coolness either. Nobody would buy a Ford Mach-E. However, the mustang brand is cool and sporty and it brings lots of attention. Ford needs to find success in the electric market, so they’re going all-in with this new vehicle. And that means giving it their Mustang branding

r00kieMuatang brand also doesn't go with 'four door SUV appliance car' either. A Mustang is an enthusiasts car, the Mach-e isn't really. IMO it should have been a Lincon model if they are going after Telsa to hit that higher end consumer. Branding aside, reviews I have seen have given rhis car a lot praise and it sounds like cross shopping with a Tesla is something buyers should do. I also think they look much better in person.

SegsxiAs long as you mean actual Hellcats not none of that V6 shit with a fake Hellcat badge

theLiquorIdk, Tesla needs to pick it the f'k up if they're going to succeed--the cool brand only takes you so far. Is BMW not generally considered a cool brand? Because as cool as they are, the company still doesn't hold a candle to a Toyota etc in terms of market cap and market share. I put a deposit on the VW ID.4 and I'd be even more excited for the MicroBus--f'k a Tesla when I left my test drive at Tesla I couldn't help but feel doom and gloom for them in the future. I think a lot of cool stuff will be coming out to really give Tesla issues. Tesla tries too hard to be cool IMO and will only be cool as long as they're the new kid on the block but I'm already very tired of seeing them on the road. And trying to be the champion of environment while putting like 1 ton lithium batteries in a car so you can make a nearly 3 ton car go 0-60 in 3 seconds? Give me a break. Ford can f off too with that "Mustang" I'm so happy to be buying anything other than a Tesla or Ford. I'd buy a Chevy Volt or Bolt if they were bigger. Tesla needs to make an honest to god full size SUV--they make mega battery packs to make fast cars, why not use it for a full size SUV? That's going to be the market share in the future not 11 second electric cars
guelah_papyrusAin't no replacement for displacement
ReturnToMonkeyEh, they're kinda two totally different beasts for different roles. The Mustang was pretty shitty at first but then they replaced the Allison engine with the Merlin which allowed it to go faster and higher. It had a long range and was mostly used for escorts over Europe. The Hellcat was based off experience with the Wildcat, so it was objectively great from the get-go, but more used at low altitudes and played a multi-role fighter in the Pacific. It was designed for carrier use, which a Mustang would never be able to do very well. They don't even look close to the same:
F6F Hellcat
P-51 Mustang
JAHpowThis thread is now about WWII airplanes.
My grandpa helped build Douglas A-20 Havoc's-
And my grandma was a "Rosie the Riveter" on Douglas DC-3's-
They met at the Douglas aircraft factory in Santa Monica, CA.
BrandoComandoSuper cool! Not quite WWII but still military flying vehicle-related. My grandpa flew Hueys for the Army in Vietnam. He did a lot of troop transport in the war. He doesn't talk about it much, but he still has his pilot helmet and military-issue pistol
