Thinking about just this season where I skied 74 days Passes:
- $800 Ikon
- $500 Brighton twilight
- $160 2x days at Grand Targhee
- $80 day at Wolf Creek Total: $1520 Equipment: - $400 Look Pivot 15s
- $800 New Boots
- $80 New goggles (Joystick Waynes highly recommend)
- ~ $200 tuning/core shot fills Total: $1480
Last year I learned a trick where if you buy last season's Faction Candides in the summer you get them for cheap ($450) and then they'll break within a couple days of use and then they'll send you the current season's pair and you'll have new skis. I've done this twice now and apart from the 2 weeks when I was skiing my rock skis it works perfect.

No I wax my own, yes hf wax. Plain wax for summer storage. I pay a tuner to check bindings once a year that’s all, also mount my bindings but that’s it.

There’s lots of guys on here buying way more than me look at @anders_a , I do what I can, my main contribution in to the industry is I tip well, thank lifties, I’m quiet in the lodge, I buy what I can from my local shop, I don’t litter.
Honesty tho, I’d trade 60% of my income to the karma gods rn and live a different life it it gave us all 5/10 pow days, less winter rain

The place I work offers free skiiing/climbing/bicycle trail/gymb membership & season passes to encurage sports and that people do something on their freetime that keeps them healthy. heck, we even have 1-2 trips to some ski destination abroad. Ironicy people want overtime pay, or days off.. if they go on the trip...
We also have a company gathering with good food once a week locally while skiiing.. but again, not everybody shows up, and surprisingly many want overtime for this as well...
I probably buy 20-30 new pair of skis each season, + bindings, not that many boots (I hate bootfitting)

Not entirely, they’re included in lodging, travel etc but they have additional costs from food, activities, sight seeing, wife likes spas but that’s not ski related or really relevant to ops post. Also wife gets a snowshoe pass as do kids, then they ea. get a day or two midweek tickets ea week when we travel,my son kept track he had the least days at 41, 34 tickets, the others were more , wife less, got them all Ikon’s for next season.

I'd probably cry if i added up all the $$'s I've spent on skiing in the last 36 years since i moved out to Colorado in 85. On the other hand i've gotten to ski all over world from NZ to France and most all the major places in NA. Closing in on 6k days in my boots. I'm sure i've spent over 50k just on lift passes/tickets.

I panic bought like 8 pairs of skis from a local shop in early COVID times right after the resort reopened for summer. (I was worried what with the toilet paper and bikes and skate parts all getting scarce it might happen to skis too!!)
The shop was basically liquidating to get rid of old inventory. It was a bunch of stuff I’d always wanted to ride and I just couldn’t bear to think of some asshat gapers from Texas getting That good of a deal on some skis that me n the boiz should be riding.
it was basically the full FACTION prodigy line and both black ops and I got 2 of a couple. Got 70%+ off on all of them and paid like 1250 for the lot.
i ended up wanting to try some 4frnt shapes and all the boys were already plugged in w skis so I posted them all online for 100-200 more than I paid for them, took all summer but I sold them all and turned a 1200 dollar investment into a over 2k to subsidize all my other skiing related purchases.
was able to capitalize big time on low season pricing/COVID panic, but never underestimate how good of a price you get get on BRAND new skis that are a season or two old...
I work in "tech sector", more specificly consulting, If any nerds are looking for IT work related to running backend systems and management (you have to be actually good at it) in Norway, Oslo, hit me up then, we have a few ads out for new people, we are pro skiiing!
I looked over my lodging budget this year, due to covid lots of stuff has been closed, cant really travel that far, the bigger resorts are only like 2 hours 15 minutes drive, the local resorts are 10-15-60 minutes drive... I had signed up for sevral ski camps, also abroad, but everything was canceld, and I actually got 98% of my money back on everything, heck even the last years trip in march was refunded like... 13- months later
$500 on lodging this year. I really do feel for the hotel and lodging industry, I usually avg I belive 2-5k a year
$2000 on food (mooched on couches, so payed peoples food as well)
$500 misc ski passes not coverd by season passes
$4000+ transport to & from the slopes, , damn toll booths are stupid, its like $8 just to drive 10 minutes to local hill now! 2 hour trip is what $50 at least.
$500 ski maintenance at home, I go throw silly ammounts of wax, thoose 900gram boxes? ohh yeah they go fast, especially on new skis needing baseprep. my gf also skis with me... so this includes her stuff, and friends coming over to wax their stuff
$500-1000 stone grinds, repair and misc at local race shop
$100 mounting hardware renew inventory
$200 swix electric sharpener (this is a livesaver) my biggest regret not getting this years ago.
my buying skis budget is fairly large , but I don't loose that much on them really, having industry friends and I do buy most my gear at the same places, they give me their "weirdo buying in bulk" discount, they also know I bring lots of friends there to get new stuff, so they know to throw me some deals.
buddies also knows to buy 2nd hand from me and always gets buddy pricing, if the buddy has less $$ they get an even bigger buddy discount. I did sell 11 pairs of skis in the last 14 days, 5 to friends, rest to random people online. spring sales are up boys!

Stuff like socks, gloves and underlayers wear down pretty fast and I tend to get a few every of those every year.
Once a year, I have enough savings to spent about 1000$ on renewing my gear, one piece at a time. Got a pair of 2019 scratches for 100$ and went all out on the pivot 14 for almost 500$.
Well, I had a stock of it, and yes I still buy it, I wax once pre season(2 coats), maybe a 2nd time mid season, possibly but unlikely a 3rd on my most used skis, then again for storage. I’ve read multiple reports, it’s ok, it’s bad so idk but I’m not against not using it anymore, but I can feel the difference for sure, no doubt there, and I don’t see racers entitled to use it but not “us”, outlaw it for all or none.

In regards to stone grinds, seems like you ski a lot, but so do I and haven’t needed base grinds, are you grinding older skis, or is it cause your buddies use so they get more use than I think? Do you ski boiler plate %90 of the time?
For edge sharpening do you like really sharp? I kinda like em used... a lil worn down except on my carving skis. Is there an angle you like for looser more free riding style? I’m looking to learn more about edges, I’d like to pay a tuner but last time I gave my local the work he turned my stocklis into ultra carver so asked for a freestyle angle 🤷🏼♂️

I don’t think it’s necessary to spend lots to be considered hardcore, I think a hardcore skier

2-skis a ton
3-can ski basically anything
4-lives affected by the sport and possibly revolves around it.

Dude that’s a waste of money , Corbett’s.com pivots be like $260 ish , I just got pivot 15s and jester 18 for 477, better to support local but I’m not paying that for pivots
