Anyone know how to install heli coils

I bought some and put them in my skis, it’s just hard to get them in without fucking the coil itself up. I was using one of my binding screws to thread them in but it didn’t work so well so I had to delicately twist them in with a flat head so they didn’t bend or overcoil/uncoil themselves. Also mine are the metal ones off binding freedom

Did you tap the holes before you put the coils in? It shouldn’t take a ton of force to put them in

I did not cause 1. I don’t have the tool and 2. I figured the heli coil would stay in better if it just made its own threads if that makes sense

Yeah sometimes I have gotten them in without tapping the hole, if I accidentally strip a hole it’s real easy to put them in without tapping it. I don’t think it’s much stronger with or without tapping it though. I think tapping it just helps it go in easy. If you didn’t already, put some epoxy or glue into the hole before you put the coil in. That will help it from moving around or ripping out of the hole.
