What is your personal secret to skiing moguls?

I dont have any tricks that i use other than keeping my skis close together and using my body as a dampener to absorb the impact and control your speed that way.

Slide on the backside of the moguls to control speed. If you want to go fast, have your weight centered and bash, bash, bash

Cut your poles short if you haven’t already.
Look a few bumps ahead as already mentioned. Keep a calm upper body and let your legs do the work. Leg motion ends up being like pedaling backwards on a bike.
You learn there are many ways to initiate a quick turn, such as a lead change - simply shuffling a ski in front of the other can initiate a turn.

practice short quick turn form without bumps, then take it to easy moguls and work your way up.

or just follow tanner hall around. He’s actually a super strong bump skier, when his ankles work...

Ski fast and take chances.

Actually though learning to look a few moguls ahead made the biggest difference for me as well as focusing on skiing with the tips of my skis more to keep my weight balanced as its very easy to get backseat in the bumps. Otherwise repetition and staying in shape and you'll be cruising.

Absorb then slam down over the top. If you start going too fast and mistime one instead of bailing kind of tail press over the top and pop upwards - then back down to earth cause it’s sweeeeeet. Shoulders down the hill upper body still. Legs like springs.

Double the first couple but after picking up too much speed launch way too far and case one super hard and double eject to my face. Then continue to repeat this.

Hips foreword, pressure the shovels of your skis down in between turns. If you watch people skiing bumps from the bottom, you'll see they usually get kicked out of the bumps at the same time you're able to see their bases. Reach for the pole plant, back side of the mogul.

when you start out, exaggerate the absorption (bend your knees) and start out slow and let the speed build up over the first 5 to 6 moguls.

Its so much fun to see a mogul run with a bunch of people slowly making their way down it and you're just pumping the transitions and skiing on top of the bunps, flying past people at 25 mph. Then once in a while you blow up and eat shit and everyone laughs

Here's a fun race game:
You and your friends start at the top, you all start shotgunning your beer and once its empty (no cheating!) you can start going down the moguls. There are no rules, this is like Nascar, bumping is encouraged. You can go WWE on your opponents if you like. Everyone has to chug for the number of seconds of the position you placed besides the winner (ie first doesnt drink, second for 2 seconds, 5th would drink 5). If you puked, you have to shotgun another beer.

Don’t think of it as your body ricocheting off the mogul. It’s a turn, not a bounce. My mogul coach drilled that into my head when I was a young lad before I skied park.

I've always heard the sort of "be as smooth as possible and the speed will come"... I always just focus on keeping my knees together and finding that last mogul that I can absolutely boost off of.

Depends on how I want to ski them..

Most of the time I treat moguls like a series of jumps and turns and smoothly bounce thru, other times I like to straight line if there’s a groomer on the side, if they are steep smooth and fast with the best of my ability, lots of nose pressure, pole plant and pulling heels up to turn and stay in the groove and absorb rather than slam into the mogul or jump them, if they’re icy, steep, narrow, rocky I ski em like an amateur using the moguls themselves to slow myself and just avoid rocks and scram.

When I was like 14 I spent a week at hood learning how to ski moguls at hit jumps with some US ski teams dudes as coaches. I am sure that probably didn’t hurt.

You dont actually have to ski them the way you see in the olympics. Just go like 3 at a time and use your legs to absorb impacts. With practice you'll find yourself getting faster at it.

Cool. I thought you wanted to keep your legs even on moguls. I stagger to turn when carving but i didnt know you should do it on moguls too

I will gap moguls if the run out is short and there is a groomer at the end. I like finding short sections that are really steep but smooth at the bottom and you can just point it and jump from mogul to mogul and you dont have to worry about slowing yourself down going 25 mph in the middle of a huge mogul run.

i jump over and into all of the landings and swerve the heck out of them and do shiftys and tail drags over them. When I get to the bottom I wine about my legs hurting the whole way up the lift
