EXTREME skiing in oregon&idaho?

everyone knows where to go for the good stuff in the rockies...
jackson, targhee big sky, bridger, bird, aspen, taos etc. in the sierras
everyone knows it's squaw. in washington its probably alpental,
crystal, baker.. but no one ever talks about it in oregon. to the point
that idk if oregon even has anything like that. what are the best oregon
ski resorts for cliffs, cornices and couloirs, chutes, super steep
terrain? preferably inbounds, or else sidecountry.

curious about idaho too but idk I dont think they even have any of that kinda terrain in idaho lol

Anthony lakes for side country. And any eastern oregon MTN has the Terrain and snow to fill your needs. Mt hood meadows has some decent challenging in bounds. Same with skibowl

Idaho has a shit ton of terrain. Not that much resort gnar but there’s endless opportunities if you have a sled.

I’d like to know what people say about Oregon though. I just moved to Hood River from BC and I’m kind of sad.

I've gotten some pretty mean days at crystal.this year. Can't wait for more touring when we go to jist weekend after next week. Had a few ghost town pow days.

Have heard good things about alpental

In oregon everything you could call a "big line" is in the backcountry. The resorts have some cool minigolf lines but nothing sustained and gnarly. Bachelor has one zone in the alpine where you can go pretty big with quite a few options, but you only get one hit per lap. I've heard that meadows and skibowl have some pretty sick below treeline cliffs, willamette has crazy steep trees and a cool cliff zone, and Anthony lakes has properly gnarly sidecountry but it's not ski in ski out, you'd have to tour the out ridge a bit. If you're looking for big, steep lines you'll have go touring in eastern oregon or on some of the pointier volcanoes. If you want big cornices and alpine cliffs (but short lines, and not that steep) go bachelor, and if you want below treeline cliffs and chutes you got meadows, skibowl, or willamette

i get the impression schweitzer (idaho) is a pretty mellow mountain, @Petri would you disagree with that? i haven't skied there.

There's plenty, they stick out from the landscape quite a bit so it shouldn't be too hard to look around on google earth and google some pictures.

Grew up skiing Pebble. It has a lot of challenging terrain and some great backcountry that is accessible from the chair with minimal hiking, but just like any other mountain, it needs to have decent snow levels to enjoy it. Other than that, Jackson/Targhee is the next best area for the east side of the state. I have skied many resorts and if you can ski Pebble decent, you can ski any other area just fine.
