ronders_I say keep it but make it the old way where you actually have to stand there and talk the whole time. Shit was entertaining and requires some effort on the part of the politician (god forbid)
little1337I didn't understand filibusters when I was 10 and I don't understand them now. Just duel for fucks sake, is it that hard to get a sword?
NotaskibumI think it's good because it provides stability. If you get rid of it you'll have each party changing the rules back and fourth every 4 years.

SuspiciousFishPeople may not like Rand Paul but his Drone Filibuster was pretty badass:

Craw_DaddyI never heard dems calling for it to be removed when Republicans had a majority. If they get rid of it and think it won't come back to bite them after not delivering on 2000 dollar checks (the only reason they won Georgia) they'll be sorely mistaken. With that said, I think most just want it to go back to the way it was before which is how I think it should be. Ted Cruz will just read from the cancelled dr Seuss books instead of green eggs and ham.
jompcockRequiring anything to have 60 votes unless it's forced through with budget reconciliation is undemocratic. Look at the numbers, the number of filibusters spiked when the rule changed to them not actually having to talk. Fewer things voted on, more grid lock. I fully support going back to the way it was before. They need to earn that grid lock.
No one cancelled dr suess. The company controlling distribution changed some things to reach a wider audience. That's what a private company in a capitalist system will do. It's all a bs distraction anyway because republicans have no political direction without trump, so they just cry about the culture war.

Craw_DaddyI mean when you get right down to it, anything outside of having direct ballots for literally every issue in the public sphere is undemocratic. You're kinda drawing an arbitrary line here dude... Representational democracies with rules around creating new laws are good because the vast majority of people are fucking stupid and don't understand the things they're voting on. With that said I agree with making senators earn it when they want to stop a vote on something. Which is what I said in my first comment.

CaseyI think the underlying problem is that the 60 vote threshold was intended to be used sparingly on like really controversial big stuff - then Obama got elected and McConnell was like “oh you want to fill your cabinet with appointed positions like the constitution says you have to? Well fuck you were filibustering all your shit because fuck a black president in Kentucky.” And it’s basically been a downward spiral ever since.
jompcockObama Care was literally the product of a conservative think tank and all the republicans voted against it. I don't understand why the Democrats think Republicans are gonna play nice if issues are met in the middle. It's like watching someone go back to a visibly abusive relationship over and over again.
DolansLebensraumYup. Ending the filibuster would be a disaster.
jompcockI don't see anyone suggesting we end it totally. People need to talk. 60 vote min is bullshit.
skierman"OUR GOOBERMANT CAN'T GET ANYTHING DONE! THEY NEVER DO ANYTHING!"
"WE CAN'T GET RID OF THE PHILIBOOSTER! ITS TOO IMPORTANT TO KEEP SHIT FROM GETTING DONE!"
Are you kids fucking serious right now? Get rid of it so shit can start getting done. I don't care if I agree with it or not, the legislative branch has been broken by Mitch McConnell and Newt Gingrinch's scorched earth politics. Republicans ruined it, get rid of it
r00kieYou realize democrats used it hundreds of times while they held a slim minority right? This idea the only republicans are scummy is very shortsighted.
guelah_papyrusIMO Mitch needs to fucking croak already
r00kieYeah. Him and Pelosi are why we need teem limits.
guelah_papyrusPeople seem to forgot she's worth $100+ million and is just another .1%er that needs to face the guillotine also.
