WHERE TO STAY AT MT HOOD?

Ok so me and a buddy wanna go spend some time in Oregon approximately from April 18th to May 8th (3 weeks) because our local season is over and the may pass at hood is dirt cheap. Important detail, we are both 17 and currently doing highschool online cuz of Covid. We had a whole plan to bum it out and camp in a van right by the mountain and had a solution to every problem like WiFi and showering etc. But it’s gonna be a hell of a lot easier to find a place to actually stay at. One because it would have WiFi and electricity and a place to bathe and cook and all that. Two, our parents would be way more likely to say yes if we weren’t living homeless. Issue is, lodging is expensive and we can technically afford it but we aren’t trying to drop half a grand per person on just lodging. Oh also, forgot to mention, it seems like the obvious idea to bring in more ppl to drive down the cost but we really only have one other guy that would go and he probably wouldn’t even say yes because he’s not mature enough to live on his own. So, what do you guys think we should do. And if u guys have any places u know of or hidden gems please hook a fellow skier up. Also, I have a job and I can pay off the whole trip in just 3 weeks of work so it’s affordable but like I said, I’m cheap and I don’t wanna spend too much. Thanks

My dude im not so sure that a half grand a piece is very much to consider spending on lodging at allll especially considering that you want to stay for a month. You might want to re-evaluate how much you guys are going to spend because I'm positive that y'all will spend over 500$ just to eat (if your having 3 meals a day, McDanks don't count) not the mention gas, lift tickets, lodging or whatever you decide to do, etc., also another thing to think about is that having a place to cook usually doesn't come with typical lodging unless your like renting a house which you wouldn't be able to do without an adult to rent it for you. If your looking to save money and not spend a couple grand, much less a half g, then you might want to look into driving down for like a weekend or even a week and even then it will be fairly expensive especially if you don't have like a pimp van with beds, cooking/shower equipment, n all the works that make you not a hobo.[/quote]

Just make a reservation at a hotel, show your parents the reservation, then cancel it and camp. Save money that way. Just clean up after yourselves in camp. Learning how to camp in hood semi responsibly is practically a right of passage for a ski bum.

Camping def the move...invest in a decent tent, bag, pad and some cooking supplies (you'd probably end up still being under budget compared to staying in a hotel). All of that stuff can then be used later on down the road. Balling on a budget you definitely don't wanna be buying all your food, roll up to grocery store and stock up with the good quality eats, (oats are cheap for the morning, sandwiches pb, honey, jelly etc wicked cheap, granola bars and bring a gallon to the mountain. Learn how to cook with some barebones, tons of vids on Youtube to learn from, like living on $20 of food for a week.
