Wym? Anonymous shame only? Idc, make downvotes public too. Give OP the option to decide if thread has public upvotes. Let voter choose to vote publicly or not. There are a lot of ways to do it. Could also stop threads from being pages of incoherent echo chambers that have no substance

As soon as you make votes public, nobody will vote how they used to. Tons of ppl down vote because they know nobody will see them downvote, as soon as that changes they stop downvoting. It would essentially ruin the upvote/downvote system as it is only really works when its anonymous. It would just turn into trolls and shit posters abusing the ability to see the votes, it just would never work.

Idk why you equate change to ruin. Not downvoting cause people will see it is a pussy move. Personally I'd like everyone to see what I down vote. Not sure why you only think it works when anonymous. How would seeing the votes lead to abuse? Also my first suggestion was to just try it with upvotes. If anything, public upvotes would mitigate trolls to some extent.

Idk why I even posted in site discussion. Any suggestion for change seems to get shut down. I guess less support for change means less work.

I did consider it. My understanding of your explanation was not clear, so I asked you to elaborate. Why would fewer people downvote? How would trolls abuse the voting system? Are you suspecting trolls would enjoy seeing respected members downvoting give them joy to know who is downvoting them? If so, then the inverse would apply to upvotes; troll accounts being upvoted by other troll accounts would less likely cause people to rush to reply as to why the thread is stupid. Hell, if I'm not 100% shit talking someones downvoted post, they can see I didn't downvote them, or even show an upvote so they don't rush to a negative response. Maybe there can be a like, heart, + or whatever separate from the voting system that is public. Maybe I can be lead to agree with you if I could understand the points you were making.

Appreciate the suggestion but there's a lot of research about why anonymity is important in situations like these. Specifically to Newschoolers though, aside from shitposting in threads, trolls find targets (often female members) and bully them in their PMs. Removing anonymity (even just for upvotes) leaves the community more exposed to that.
