Renting a RV

I can't remember what it's called but there's an airbnb type site for people to rent their own privately owned RVs.

I’ve never driven one myself but my family has rented one a couple of times to drive to NY from NC. They’re fun to stay in but super cumbersome to drive and the last time we did it we had problems with carbon monoxide when we were trying to sleep. I imagine they’d be pretty hard to navigate if you go up into the mountains out west. Could be super fun though!! If you go for it there are a bunch of car camping websites where you can find safe places to park at night for free or super cheap.
