Losing my Send appetite

So yesterday was the best pow day of my year in terms of skiing pow, but as the day went on, I realized something, I seem to have lost some of my appetite to send it. Don't get me wrong, I love the feeling of landing some new air or line, but I just felt like I wanted to ski powder. I've noticed I haven't been trying to catch as much air everywhere and find myself trying to avoid flat or jarring landings more than anything else. I did some 3s earlier this year, but I haven't been trying them everywhere. Instead, I'm finding myself more into just skiing fast over groomers and variable terrain. I think part of it was some back issues I've had, and a really bad crash on a nollie that I've done a million times before, but I'm wondering if anyone else has had any similar experience, or am I just getting older at 24. Maybe I just need to hit the gym again and get stronger, or maybe part of it is I'm mentally exhausted from work and school.

Still gonna get drunk and try the pondskim switch though.

All I can say is this....do what you feel. If you are forcing yourself to send stuff when you arent feeling it you are...

1-not going to have fun.
2-just turn yourself off from wanting to send/progress in the future (get burnout even more).
3-have a much higher risk of getting hurt.


Its just skiing! We're not going pro! Do what makes you happy when you go out.....doing anything other than that is a disservice to yourself. Took me a while to learn that one.

Softest landings to send it on, although it was actually hard under the 17 inches of fresh.

That’s life man. I’m 30 and have taken some hard landings to the flats and it’s just so hard to get pumped up to ski at 100% anymore. Got other shit I like doing and can’t be gimping around after being an idiot on skis. It kind of sucks because you know it’ll just never be the same feeling it used to be....but I think for almost everyone that’s how it has to go eventually.

Eh, it happens. at this point in my ski career I’m just tryna stay injury free while still stacking clips and learning stuff. It’s a weird balance to find but some days you feel the send and others you just wanna do small line traveling circus type rail lines and jib rocks

Is there a reason for me to try some kind of new, big send type trick? Or will I have more fun doing my sketchy front 2s or front swaps on flat tubes and down rails?

What about the sport gives me pure, unfiltered joy?

Shit at 24 you’re still on your parents health insurance, take advantage of that. Im going on like 8 years of no health insurance and that is what will ultimately crush your appetite to send it when you can’t shake the thought of a blown knee and stay sore for weeks from minor falls.

Yeah I feel the same way every once in a while. It's good to take a break from trying harder and new tricks. Some days I just stick to only doing spins 5 and under and 2's off rails.

I feel this one hard, somedays everything feels right and I will be keen to go bigger and take on more consequence, other days I just want to have fun on side hits and try to learn other less consequential things.

I’m sorry you’re progressing to be a dad, first you’ll start to favor a more directional ski, then begin looking at a mount point -10 from center. Before you know it you’ll start cursing at kids for going too fast

definitely feeling this way at 31.

Each slam is kind of a wake up call that I can't really keep doing this shit, and I need my body to function at work so I can earn income to survive. Though I feel like I'm charging Pow lines through the trees harder than ever. most likely because the new ski technology allows me to do so in a way that was never before possible!

I wouldn't let it get to you that you are being a big ol pussy at 24. but u r.

Got knocked unconscious and ended up with a concussion, 2 hairline fractures on my ribs, and a severly bruised hip to where I couldn't walk for 2 weeks.

Took a year and a half off skiing just due to the injury and other things going on in life. Finally was able to be pumped for a full season of skiing this year and ended up tearing my MCL and LCL in early Jan. Have had a multitude of injuries due to other sports as well.

Worried about coming back next year and not being able to ski the way that I want and that I will be hesitant to try new things. Im 23 now which is still pretty young but don't want all these injuries catching up with me down the road.

Hopefully not though, am currently being an idiot and trying to get a whole new quiver over time during the offseason. Only want to keep on progressing and taking trips to ski places on my bucket list even more in the future.

I feel that. its been a weird year. Just looking to cruise around and maybe find something fun but other than that, it was nice just cruising around for turns yesterday, and even hiked baldy for a change which was silky smooth.

Candide sending vs the best skier on your mountain sending vs you sending vs 8 yr old that just learned to ski sending... all are having just as much fun and are total bad asses!!! Trust me I'm twice as old, and do half the sending as when I was half my age, BUT age isn't the whole story... ALL depends how much you're skiing and what shape you're in.

You can't be sitting at a desk 5 days a week and expect to stomp like when you were skiing 5 days a week. Also the risk you're willing to take evolved based on your priorities, the more responsibilities you have outside of skiing, the less it's worth it to risk breaking yourself knowing you need to work or take care of family and pay the bills haha. Regardless, has nothing to do with what you did last year, only what you're having fun doing today! If you're having fun don't give a fuck! It's just skiing.

Physically I feel better than I did in my mid-to-late 20's but life also happens and it's like I could totally send it but if this doesn't work out I'll be hurt or I can't golf or bike or whatever. The more you have to lose as you get older the more you attenuate your risk.

I don't think that's a bad thing though, I think it means you're growing and changing as a person and hopefully won't encounter any catestrophic injuries as a result of reckless choices.

trust me it is age. but i get more and more more passionate about skiing more the years go. id pay anyone to bring me back to young me no injury, no fear i usually send it to the max if i go out with buddies who are much more daring or better skiers than me. strangely that turns out to be my old man sometimes

skiing is like guitar, you could spend the rest of your life learning new styles and disciplines and never run out. plus it's a great chill sport, you're out in the mountains and woods, at dope snow bars, hell you don't even have to ski to enjoy most of that

also the send comes in waves. don't think you'll never get the itch again just because you're on a bit of a downswing right now. you're young, stay fit mentally and physically and if you want you can still ski at a high level for a very long time

I've gotten hurt more this season than I ever have before. At the beginning of the season I was definitely over-sending but I also feel like my injuries are hurting for longer. I think the gyms being closed for covid played a huge role. This season was the first in 5 years I wasn't able to do any pre-season work outs, now I've got a bum shoulder, my back is weak, and I just don't feel like hucking/learning new tricks anymore. Been loving the sleeper pow days and the cruisy backcountry laps though.

Excited to get in good shape before next year. I'll be officially in my 20s by then but I'm hoping I'll get my huck drive back.
