Does anyone else’s mountain build lips like this

weastcoastFor whatever retarded reason, 95% of the lips that park crew builds at my hill are lowkey dumb as hell. They always make it a big ass gap, I’m talking like 4-5 feet, with a high ass lip. They never build the lips that actually touch the rail, they make them ridiculously far back and it’s annoying as fuck because you have to cook in with a ton of speed so you don’t catch on the front of it, then by the time you do that it’s hard to get any swaps in cause you’re already off the rail. I feel like all lips should be low-ish that DONT HAVE A 5 FOOT GAP and actually touch the rail. They will also build lips skinny as fuck on one side so it makes it a lot more difficult to 2 on.

“GrOw A pAiR aNd GeT bEtTeR”, well skierman I have no issue with actually riding these types of shitty lips, but there’s no benefit for any skill level to make every single lip with a big ass gap, it’s just more fun, easier, and looks just as “core” when lips are slightly lower than the rail and you gotta hit it urban or lip. Rant over.

TreyDudskiOne of my homies works on the park crew in a smaller resort in northern UT and said sometimes they are made like that cause it’s funner for boarders to hit... but it really sucks ass when all the rails are built this way

WoFlowzI don’t have a picture but my hill setup our donkey like 6inch diameter tube as a down to a steep up with no landing so it’s like a street spot almost where you land flat 🤦🏼Then the park crew told the cat operator to change it and the guy just said let’s cut the donkey off. Well the morons on our park crew said yeah sure cut our only donkey rail in half. Well now we have an oddly short down rail with a pile of metal shavings in the landing

Skiers and boarders ride things s little bit differently but this "our park crew is snowboarders so the lips suck" is myth at best imo.

There are different styles of takeoffs and their are also good and shitty takeoffs.

A properly built takeoff works for skiers and boarders whether it was built by skiers or boarders.

extravertidk, when the only feature in the park is a hand rail sticking out of the ground with no lip on, seems like its made for 50-50 on a snowboard and nothing else. So its a shitty takeoff for everyone but at least beginner to intermediate boarders can hit the thing. This is more common in east coast parks.

theabortionatorDepends on the feature. Pole jams are a thing, and way easier to hit on a snowboard, but that's just a feature not necessarily being set up wrong. Also have seen skiers slide into them, or kind of power slide into it and even cork off them like the one at Killington a few years back.

If we're just talking like a flat rail, and it's the only feature it's just set up wrong, not built for snowboarders. Just because it's easier to hit on a snowboard doesn't mean it's a snowboard feature. Parks are subjective but some things are just wrong.

Some places just don't know how to build parks.

TOAST.Preach man, I get sick of the skiers complaining about snowboard features (starting to realize I'm just jaded about everything). I agree with the boarders on our crew about lips 99% of the time.

To the guy you quoted, handrails with no lips are fun as long as they arent the only thing in the park. Ollieing hard to get on top of a rail is a blast.
