Something we need to discuss

oldmanskiWhy is it that a women(or even a man) can not walk down down the street and not feel safe? Why is it they feel forced to take the long way around in some situations? This is something, we as men need to talk about. From events that have recently happened here in the U.K. we need to openly talk about how others do not feel safe. We need to do something about this. I have a wife, I have a daughter, I want them to feel like they can walk somewhere with confidence and not feel threatened. What can we do? I know there are crazy people out there but we need to look out for one another, we need to not be the ones that make others feel threatened. I believe it all starts in the household of how we are raised. I hope your father, or even mother has taught you how to respect others and to maybe even stand up for them when needed. I challenge all you you to discuss this openly with your friends and discuss these matters. Remember gentlemen, respect the ladies.

OP is talking about the state of affairs all over. It’s not just the hood. Reality is that women have to team up for protection just to go to the bathroom in the nicest and ‘safest’ places in the USA. Not sure what the solution is but I think it’s important to recognize that it’s a real issue worldwide

Got to Saudi Arabia where up until 2018 women couldn't drive a car. Or Egypt where they can't leave their home without their entire body being covered.

Agreed, it starts in the home. Doesn't help that single mother homes are rising. Fathers absolutely have a place in a child's life. They need to take responsibility.

The reality is that in a physical sense and in a parental role sense, men and women are not the same and cannot provide the same type of role needed in a child's life. But we can't say that anymore which is also an issue..

What can we do? Raise children to be better humans rather than indoctrinate them with regressive

Yeah this. I hate gross generalizations, which feminst arguments tend to use heavily. That being said the best way to break them is to not play into them, be the antithesis of the generalization, in this case men are predators. Be a respectful guy, teach others to do the same. If you know someone younger without a strong male role model for them to learn that from step up and be that.

It's sad that so many in our society don't feel safe, whether we feel that fear is justified or not, that fear is still real to them.

Best thing to do as a man imo is to ignore most social conditioning that will tell u that any women lives in constant fear of you and that your presence is offensive. Along with this don't be afraid to show masculine traits that society poopoos (gregariousness, being loud, being happy, talking to strangers etc.).
If you believe in a reality where masculinity is not threatening, offensive, etc. and where femininity is not about living in fear of the scary men, other people will accept that.
I feel like all of this is the latest incarnation of that old puritan vibe in western countries where anything but *pretty true nonexistent hollywood anime love* between men and women (both towards the platonic and sexual ends of the spectrum) is projected as shameful and gross.
Of course there are cultures around the world and in other people that actually have INSANE gender issues *cough* islamic culture *cough* and none of this applies.

We need people to have more tools in their life to deal with adversity. The public education system for example does nothing to teach kids how to stand up for themselves or be assertive.

My gf use to teach martial arts and it's heartbreaking to hear the stories of boys, girls, men and women who lacked the confidence to stand their ground in simulated scenarios without breaking down and submitting.

The result of people building confidence and esteem is twofold. Hopefully, it allows people to stand up for themselves against cowardly predators who prey on the feeble. Secondly, those with self confidence are less likely to become predators because they won't have the urge to manipulate others to feel control and power over their lives. I'd bet most predators have had abusive pasts. If they only had the resources to stand up to their abuser, they may not feel the need to prey on others.

The irony of this is the Proud Boys were literally founded to fix this situation and had strict rules on protecting women at all cost and even banned watching porn. The started fighting Antifa because they were attacking people and women at Conservative rallies so the media used them as as scapegoat boogieman group. The term Proud Boy is actually from the Aladdin movie song where the Sultan sings about not knowing his Dad. Dont get me wrong, they have been in some bullshit over the years but that was a a big part of what they were founded around.

Re-asserting a frame where men are these hyper-righteous protectors of the weak and women are these hyper-valuable madonnas would be regressive, I think. I think the best way to tackle the issue of sexual violence, stalking etc. is to target those few boys and men at-risk for becoming sex offenders/stalkers/etc. "creeps".
This means changing a lot of cultural undertones about masculinity, which are clearly present when you look at things such as academic achievement rates between sexes, etc. Even watch any family sitcom within the last 40 years and you can guess what kind of character any man is. Our culture has this quirk where femininity is endlessly celebrated and expressed in a million ways but men are faced with either silence or some goofy funhouse-mirror depiction of masculinity that nobody relates to. Society right now treats masculinity like female sexuality used to be treated in the 18th century: not mentioned at all, not even thought of or considered. Our culture is averse to discussing straight male sexuality in a mature, realistic way.
In fact, you can compare this repression/shaming of male sexuality with the repression of female sexuality that used to be more common.
Men are faced with either being a desexualized potted plant, or being this alien, shameful, offensive invader that not even he is comfortable with. You can imagine this is enough to give certain weaker mental states a serious complex, especially if they spend a lot of time around this social conditioning (as we do to our children, giving them smartphones and TV to stuff them 24/7 with the latest unrefined, thoughtless pig-slop TV producers and mouth-breathing twitter users churn out).
I see it all as society's collective consciousness (or a vengeful cabal of cultural elite?) immaturely seeking revenge for all the oppression of femininity, and the root of it all is America's protestant, puritan roots that froze our culture's maturity regarding sexuality in place for far too long.

while it is true that women are treated much much worse in Saudi Arabia than in North America, that doesn't mean that women have everything perfect here. Women still have to worry about being stalked, being alone at night, being preyed upon while drunk. Most rapists do not go to jail. it's not "bullshit"

have they done anything to fix this situation though? Idk much about the proud boys but I'm pretty sure that they generally believe women belong in the kitchen (ie. they prefer "traditional" women)
