-DanI like the sentiment here. You are expressing that Andy is an incredibly talented street skier. I absolutely agree with that. On the other hand it makes me think about what Hackel was saying after real ski this year. He said we shouldn’t ever let x-games be the pinnacle of street skiing, and that full projects should always have that space.
I know not every street skier cares to make an Xgames video and some that have already wouldnt want to do it again. It’s for sure a great opportunity in some ways! In some ways it’s restrictive/burdensome as well. Depends on the person, their goals, sponsors, and their motivations in the streets.Often I see people mention skiers they think should have an x games invite and I know those skiers have already turned it down.
I’m not sure what bigger picture adjustments we should try to shift as a community. Whether you ski street yourself, or just really love watching people do it. I just reflect on what Hackel said tho, and believe somethings could be done to help give full projects more significance and more support.
Perhaps it’s making more effort to share the independent projects people create so that they reach as much audience at the xgames videos. I know the zootspace video got an incredible amount of views, deservingly of course! But why should it have as many or more than anything x games does. That would give the skiers/crews more power when getting budget from sponsors. Perhaps there’s also room for us to be more vocal to brands about what we want to see them spend budget on. Or just making sure we support brands that are already giving money to these skiers/projects.
To bring things back around, I’d rather see the zootspace homies get 20-30k in sponsor money for another project that Andy P can film for and create another amazing part without a 90second limit or incredibly restrictive song choices. Cause when it comes down to it, I’d way rather hear that camron track and get 4 full minutes of exactly what The skier wanted than to hear about someone getting broke off halfway thru filming for X and have them be forced to put out an unfinished product.
I’m with you and I’m glad you are bringing it to light as did hackel. Ultimately your comment is more of an indictment on real street and that’s more than fine because yea, it’s not that great after all. And of course we shouldn’t idolize real street and make that what street skiings goal is. Completely agree. Just feel like it gives someone like him exposure which will lead to more of the money from sponsors and stuff you’re referring to outside of the “core” industry in order to make those dank parts. But hey maybe that’s what makes a guy go main stream and we should just be happy to see the raw deal like we are now. I have so much respect for the crew from zoot and the time and effort that went into this movie. If it’s gonna continue to go this way I’m down for this crew putting out Oliver produced movies, count me in. Just more trying to say that I would like to see him put out a part in a competition style event because I would like to bet he would make a run at first. And on top of that xgames should be focusing on guys who bring passion skill and stoke to street skiing like AP does. Then maybe the comp would get a little more respect.
