So I just bought a brand new pair of skis. Ive only had them for a week, and my buddy decided it would be funny to ski right over the new sticks while I was waiting at the top of the lift. Side note: he was half a bottle deep on crown at this time. After he backed off of them, I noticed he left a gash all the way across my top sheet. I laughed it off and played it cool, didn’t want to be the guy to cry about his new skis being dinged up, but damn... I’m aware they are going to get beat up eventually, and I don’t baby my skis by any means. Just hard seeing it the fourth day out with em ya know.

How would y’all have reacted?

I woulda told my friend to check himself topsheets get chipped over time but if it rly is a gash over the whole thing and I’d have to take the time to epoxy It id be a little annoyed

I'm very non confrontational so I would probably be quietly upset and maybe put some same color paint/marker over the gash. Is is actual damage where it sliced all the way through the topsheet or just some surface level damage?

Play it cool. Act like it’s no big deal then when your buddy is asleep, sneak into his house and cut off his testicles with a giant kitchen knife. He hurt your babies, you gotta hurt his and teach him a lesson.

Just surface damage. Definitely didn’t slice into the core or anything, but its not just a scratch either. I ski relatively hard and stupid sometimes, and I’ve never managed to damage any of my skis in the past the way he did in the spot he did.

Haha this made me laugh hard dude. He just got a brand new pair of Armada JJ’s and I think I might not “pay attention” one of these days and return the favor.

No worries op i think its normal to baby certain things when they are new.

i dont baby my skis because i know they will eventually look beat up no matter how careful i am, but for things like my subwoofers i would be bummed as fuck if they got dropped or damaged.

Dont worry about your skis tho, eventually you wont care.

I was riding switch into a rail about the 4th day on my new skis and dinged in an edge. Thank God I was able to get them repaired by a race shop in Boulder who worked his Black Magic on them.

Back to the OP- Topsheets get dinged up, its part of what makes your skis yours. If you really want to get him back just lean your skis against his car and let gravity take its course.

What skis were they?

My past 2 skis, I’ve slammed on my first few days and sent big chips/impacts into the topsheet/sidewall. It’s always the inside edge about 5-10cm behind my left boot


If we want them to look pretty, we gotta put them on the wall :(

They’re my new backcountry/powder setup.

And yes, I’m prepared for all the heat I’m about to get for admitting that I bought a pair of Black Crows for touring haha.

Fuck the haters. I run Crows for bc. Also, I would've murdered my friend if he skied over my freebirds.

I got a kinda bad hit on my skis first day on them, and it felt kinda bad as always, but after that my mentality is it doesnt matter and I will ski them till they break, which makes me more at ease beating them up bad

I love my skis, and while I buy what I need and don’t really consider top sheets, all my shit looks real good and I really appreciate the finish, and while a blatant Dick move like that would piss me off, I couldnt imagine ever worrying and not shredding bc of conditions or my skis getting beat up for other reasons, I maintain my gear, but I’m certainly hard on it, all things have an intended use, and lasting forever is not for skis

I lost my ski on a lift about 40ft up once that way. Coworker stepped on my pivots but didn’t push them all the way down so they popped back up. My boots have these weird grooves on them in the heel (tecnicas) and the pivots latched on to that. Made it about halfway up the hill before they fell off.
