Parent's with kid's that run age game hype insta accounts

Thoughts?

Idk it's cool to see kids shredding but I'm always worried that the parent get so involved in the hype train that it becomes leas about the kid's joy if skiing, skating etc, and more about the parents living vicariously through the hype.

There's been so many for a few years, what's people's take. Does it generally just end up a mellow positive boost toward sponsors etc? What amount of people burn out from their parents pressure and loose joy for the sport.

Always curious how the early hype train impacts them. You see so many of these " my kid is --- old and can do a ____" pages. Seems kinda shitty but maybe it all works out okay.

I’m actually curious at how many of these kids parents run their accounts tbh I’ve had some from Ontario comment on my posts and I’ve seen there’s and it doesn’t seem like a 12 yearold it seems like a middle aged dad trying to be young and hip not to mention who gives a 12yearold a Subaru and k2 sponsorship

From the outside I feel bad for these kids. Its great to have supportive parents but when the parents start to push and dictate thats only going to be harmful. Remember back in the high school days some teammates were under so much pressure they couldn't juat enjoy it. One in particular literally said that if he didn't get a full ride for swimming his parents investment would be wasted. Yikes.

Yeah man. That's what I'm thinking. We've all known a person that was super good at something that quit because of parents pressure. Skiing, skating etc should be fun. Provide the opportunities and if the kid locks the fuck in you'll know. No need to post every second of the journey on the hype train. Also i feel there's a difference between somebody posting on their page "Omg im so proud of my daughter dropping in on this ramp. Hell yeah!!"and insert name ipper skiier "7 year old slide sick skiing rail!!!!!" With similar every day forever.

Who is that really for. If you say it's not about you at all you're a liar imo.

We have a girl that goes to my local skatepark a bunch whose parents are super hard on her. She's either 8 or 9 and is a lot better than I am, but I've seen her be brought to tears by her mother forcing her to get a rock and roll in the deep end of our bowl (6 or 7 feet) just to get a clip.

I really hope there aren't many ski parents like that, it would really ruin the spirit of everything.

It's happening in the MTB world too. Don't get me wrong, I love that these kid bikers/skiers have parents hyping them up. I remember my dad being stoked which would get me all stoked when I would land something new on my skis, that honestly wasn't that cool haha - wholesome upbuilding of kids to keep the sport alive is great.

But there is a difference between that and parents trying to get their kids clout. I mean some of these IG accounts are getting in to the ridiculous range of how much they post each day, the hashtagging, tagging other brands, etc.

Idk just seems weird

A lot of this super involved parenting seems like child abuse to some extent. Like why would you want your child to be sponsored at 12 years old. Yes that would be great, but your child should be doing it because they enjoy it, not because you're forcing them to

I think it’s less likely that his parents are controlling him. He hangs out with actual skiers, puts lots of effort into style and films some stuff that he isn’t earning money on. Unlike Kelly Sildaru, who seemed to only ski with “parent approved” skiers and only did comps and her, I mean her dads YouTube channel. Also that Melvin Seliberg kid’s bio literally says “mom and dad run my account”

To be fair Melvin is 10 years old and could very possibly say some really stupid shit on his real account, anyone 12+ doesn't need a parent running their account

Yeah and Melvins parents are probably fine, especially because they are open about running the account instead of pretending to be him like Kelly’s dad did.

So goddamn happy I was just finishing middle school when social media and smartphones were just becoming a thing. Imagine building a "brand" and posting the entire life of your fucking 10 year old because they are talented at a sport.

No I’m not one of walkers parents on a secret account lmao. But I’ve skied with him multiple times and he is super stoked about skiing all day. I obviously don’t know about what happens at home, but he is a super positive kid and from what I see, loves skiing.

Alot of parents are so stupid they see their 8 yr old kid hit a jump or a rail and they think its more impressive than a 25 yr old doing the same bc their kid is 10.

the reality is when you weigh 60 pounds and are 4 feet tall, agility based sports are very easy. Also learning tricks when you are young and your brain is very impressionable is cake compared to when you are older. Hence the saying “you cant teach an old dog new tricks”. This is the reason even people like tammy cant compete with the kids who were throwing triples at age 10. Its hard to compete with somebody whos progression curve started 10 yrs before yours did.

but yeah, overly proud parents can be ridiculous sometimes. If you really want to brag about your kids skiing ability then wait till they are the size of evan and see if they can still do the tricks they could do when they were 1/4 the size.

I doubt he is because a lot of his clips are often filmed by quan or some of the other pc boys. He probably skis with them more than his parents.

Now that I have little kids its easy to be hyped on whatever they are hyped on/ learning but as someone who enjoyed hitting jumps and also having been injured and seen friends injured and need surgery I do find it odd parents who push kids to that extent when there are consequences in what we do. I'm not talking about casual park skiing/riding I mean the parents you mention that are pushing competition/ progression at a young age but it worked for Shaun White and Chloe Kim..

It's just the 2021 version of parents stacking honor roll and whatever stickers on their cars to show how much their kid has achieved, aka how good at parenting they are, except the scale has been expanded to include the entire internet rather than the 20 other kids in their class. Arguably that puts way more pressure on the kids, since prior to now they didn't see the positive or negative reactions of total strangers and acquaintances alike.

Also 99% these little kids probably shouldn't be on social media to begin with. You guys were all little kids at some point. You know how much of a shitshow unregulated AIM/AOL chatrooms were. That's basically what we're dealing with here, except with added HD video and pictures. It's probably better that the parents run the account so they don't get canceled for a photo of them doing something dumb when they were 11 or send nudes to some pedo.

At least we're starting to get passed the generation where you know vaassstttllly more about computers and the internet than your parents.

Did anyone see that video on pinkbike with that dad basically forcing his 7 year old son to hit a jump? Wasn't good.
Not good parenting to make a kid a insta and hype them up and age claim and whatever IMO. These parents should let their kids enjoy what they enjoy and support them along their own paths, not the parent's paths.

Idk every parent posts pictures of their kid, that's not the point. There are a ton of these parent driven hype accounts these days that want their kid to be famous so they can feel good.

two things:

1. Ski Racing would've been fun if parents hadn't been involved, literally all beef/drama was started by parents

2. I tagged my local park's IG account on my most recent post and a bunch of local young teens followed me and it's mad weird. They're all about hashtagging the shit out of everything to try to get exposure and getting their friends to tag ski creative in the comments over and over. I get that they're just trying to game the algorithm but it just looks lame and desperate in my opinion, like candide never uses hashtags, hardly ever posts, sometimes doesn't even put a caption, and he has 800k followers. If you fuckin shred, people will notice

When I hashtag it's dumb shit like #snerberding which i dont think has any other posts, #hashbrowns because idk and other dumb shit. I think hashtagging our parks the other day was my first legit hashtag in a long time.

Also I'm not an influencer and don't have a billion followers. Also I dont care.


Do the people that follow you to get a follow back then unfollow you do that organically or is that that like an app or something running that for them? Shit's cringey at best, especially when pro or pro ish athlete

My parents have a rule about never naming us, and have to specifically ask permission when they do post something about us. Even then its very rare, their socials are their socials, they never tried to flex us on other ppl.

Imagine being a parent and actively plugging your kid to try to get them a "career" in action sports where they will make very little money, get some concussions, knee, or spinal injuries, and keep relying on handouts well into their 30's instead of making them go to university to become a doctor or a lawyer.

least favorite grom award has to go to Kai Jones though, can’t wait for him to get older and either start skiing for himself or wash out.

like I’m not knocking the kid personally cause he IS a lil shredder but I get the biggest “I never made it so I’m living vicariously through my son” vibes from his dad.
