Also why is the pivot heel piece so flimsy looking? Assuming it is indeed as strong as it needs to be, couldnt they engineer the heel piece so it looked/was more solid and sturdy? To me the heel piece looks like some 1970s shit. Maybe that was their intention?

i think the single piece toe piece looks cooler than the split wing toe piece but is it better?

and about price, you can get tyrolia attack 13s for 140$ new, yet pivots are often 300$-400$ or more. Why is their such a price difference? Mceachran and stevenson and jesper all kill it on tyrolia attacks; i dont understand why the whole universe seems to be drawn to look pivots when you can get some badass attacks for way less $

Idk but my pivot 12 split toe piece is kinda wack I had a rly bad fall today and I popped out but the split rotated upside down

So people are still skiing pivots older than this website. I have attacks and pivots honestly can’t complain about either. Beside the toe of the attack kinda weirds me out a little.

I mean the 2 pieces that go around my toe on my pivot 12s literally rotated upside down while the rest of the toe piece stayed in place. The pivot 12s are plastic toe peices might be designed that way cause I popped out with my leg rotating and going upwards

I still dont understand how the toe wings could rotate upside down. Do you have a picture of this? I thought the two wings would only be able to swing laterally to either side.

Nope my coach bashed it back into place I can see if I can do it again I think I might have broken it tbh

I can get you a video this week, but the wings can move on one plane horizontally, but also up (i.e. up as in, away from the top sheet of the ski). They’re designed like that so boots can come out in a, “backwards twisting fall.” They can actually rotate 180 degrees and be put back into place with no issues. I had this happen to me on an older SPX 12 when I was younger and it gave me no issues whatsoever. Seems weird, and most definitely looks broken when it happens, but it happens and they’re usually good afterwards.

For the most part I’ve seen ppl buy and keep with pivots due to the durability with the metal toe peice and heel, to the point where price doesn’t matter, also they look the best imo

The toepiece is actually designed to rotate like that under a lot of pressure. It's happened to me too but only rotated about 90 degrees, rather than 180. Once you rotate it back, it snaps into place and you're good to go.

I can’t find a photo but it’s happened to me before too. The toe wings rotate from the horizontal to vertical. Mine had rotated 90 degrees so basically the toe wings are up and down instead of side to side

I feel super safe in the pivots. Feel like they always release at the right time. Been rinding only attack 13 for the past 2 years, have had a couple released that have made me not trust the binding, which have made me crank the dins to 11/12.

I got 15s because the toe piece is way more durable than the 12s toe piece. I think that is the main reason people choose 18s or 15s over 12s.

i had this happen to the toe on my old (semi turntable) pivots. I thought they were broke but turns out you just kick it and it flips back over to normal.

I’ve noticed I have to run my din a bit higher on my attacks due to less elasticity when compared to the pivots...which isn’t really a good thing

The wings basically are pulled into the main part of the toe piece with a big spring. it's a slightly tapered shape so as you pull the wings in any direction they stretch the spring, and when the pressure is relieved they snap back into place If you fall hard enough in a specific direction you can pull the wings entirely out of the housing, and they could snap back in in any direction.

If you unscrew the spring all the way you can see how it works. Also you if you wind up with it sideways it's best to ski down on one ski and lower the din enough that you can pull it out and rotate it. Kicking it can snap the plastic.

The same thing happened to me a couple seasons ago. I took them to a shop cause I thought they were broken and the tech said they we fine and just knocked them back into place.

Does this happen on just the pivots with the 2 wing tow piece or can the solid metal tow piece rotate up as well?

No, on the 15 and 18 the entire housing is one large piece of metal. On the 14, the two wings rotate as a unit that is attached to the main part of the toepiece, which is bolted down.

No it’s just the 12/14/SPX toes

The flipping toe piece happened to me as well. Pushed it right back into place easily and is just as solid as before. The way I saw it, it was either the toe piece twisting or my knee, so no biggie in my book.

Also, the heel piece durability is fine. I landed way too far over my tips switch on a separate pair and, instead of the heel piece breaking, the entirety of the heel piece ripped out of my ski entirely. Would've been mad if it wasn't 4 season old $200 Surface Blanks. Remounted on my new pair and they work great as ever.
