PIEPS DSP recall initiated

I want to let you guys know that BD is in talks with US Consumer Protection and Canada recall officials.
So if you were suckered into a dsp with the sliding switch, you will be getting a new one. I am one of thousands who were promised that this equipment was top of the line and trusted this with their lives.

Big thanks for all who harrassed Black Diamond into this recall. Check with your supplier soon.

Looks like we get a new case not a new beacon. At least that’s what it says on the euro page

Euro’s get a new case but because of US recall laws they have to give you a new device (I’m 90% sure that the recall laws are behind it - I saw someone on Instagram say it was because of those)

The consumer protection laws states that a product must (very brief):
1- be safe to use by everyone. If not, the manufactuer must put appropriate labelling and warn consumers about the risks and mitigations. Instructions for safety must be easily found and simple to understand
2- must have a reasonable life span of the good
3- Manufactuers can be held criminally responsible for injuries and deaths caused by defects not caused by the owner

So basically, when you buy something the manufactuer must stand behind their products.

So why a new one?
Its about manufactuering and supply chain. More often than not, everything we buy is worth less than the sum of the parts including labor. So, its actually cheaper and more effective for the maker to make new devices than it is to design a new piece, set up a supply chain and produce the part somewhere else in the world and have employees trained to replace the part.
So just making a new one costs way less for everyone.
