Replying to New dad ski
So I'm in my 30s now and not skiing as much as I used to. Have a baby and am hoping to get him skiing in the next year or two. So need something that is manageable at low speed.
I'm 5'11" and around 160lbs. I've been skiing on an atomic blog 185cm and to be honest it's kind of been kicking my ass.
I ski in Japan on the west side of the main island (small ski hills with 1500ft vertical). Skiing gear is crazy expensive here so I'll likely import or buy used.
I'm looking for a new all-mountain ski that's a bit more nimble at lower speeds. The Blog is decent when going relatively quick and in freshies but kind of lacking when things are choppy, variable, firm or just at a slower pace.
I used to ski on a 179cm obsethed (105mm waist) and I much preferred that to the blog.
My gut is saying I should get 102 reckoner or volkl revolt 104 (184cm Vs 180cm).
I'm looking for something that is decent up to boot deep snow, playful and less work than the Blog. Lighter would be nice too.
I've kind of disregarded the line SFB as I think the big shovel might be awkward. Not looking at anything more niche such as on3p or moment.
Any thoughts on sizing down with the revolt? As in going with the 180cm instead of the 188cm. I might be inclined to do the same with the armada arv106.
I skied 100 days a year 10 years ago but now ski only about 10. I'm looking for 30% groomer and side hits, 40% trees and pow and the remainder on the kiddy slope/ magic carpet.
