the reason cork 9 blunts are so cool is because if you are a good enough park skier you can do it so effortlessly that you do it for fun.

bending over so hard you shit your pants in order to grab the nose of your ski on takeoff is probably one of the most uncomfortable and burdensome tricks ever.

to me its like solving a rubiks cube in the air while you are hitting a jump.

But seriously, even if i could hold the nose of my ski while taking off switch (pro tip- i cant), i would never ever do it unless somebody paid me in either dollars or sexual favors.

the whole point of hitting jumps on skis is making it look effortless and fun.

bending over so hard on the takeoff you look like you are going to blow a hernia out of your fucking asshole doesnt look fun or effortless.

if pre grabbing ur nose is so cool why dont you just ski top to bottom of the resort switch while bending over and holding the nose of your ski.

wow dude that sounds so cool, holding on to your ski while your skiing.

if you still think doing grabs in air are "cool" but not pregrabs, then youre splitting hairs theyre basically the exact same thing. lets not forget that skiing itself is a fucking stupid concept to being with, and it gets stupider the moment you start throwing yourself off jumps and spinning, and then it gets even stupider to reach down and grab your ski in air, none of it has a point other than its hard to do. why draw the line at grabbing you ski before you hit the jump

Grabs are cool as a way to tweak your skis while in the air. But i agree you can make tricks look really cool without grabs; and it might actually be a more impressive test of skill to make a no grab trick look good.

progression does not always = cool

i could think of thousands of progressive tricks that are stupid as fuck.

Newschool and freeskiing didnt blow up from
2000-2010 bc of progression. It blew up because the progression went hand and hand with being stylish and aesthetic as fuck.

just like skateboarding didnt blow up because of rodney mullen doing a stupid handstand on his skateboard. It blew up because ollieing down a ten stair is something ppl can watch all day without getting sick of it bc its so aesthetic.

if skateboarding was only about progression everybody would have gotten sick of it 20 fucking years ago.

but skateboarding is still huge bc ppl love watching different skaters express themselves through their own natural style, but they are pretty much doing the same tricks that have been done for decades.

its about the tricks being pleasurable to watch, not about how hard they are.

i guarantee you nobody is going to want to watch a skier make a pbj while doing a straight air, even though that trick would be harder than any trick ever done to date.

I like doing lazy boy cork 5s with a pre tailgrab. Once I'm corked i try to tweak it or blunt it as best as I can and I've gotten a few oohs from them so they can't be that bad. They're actually decently easy and definitely not "all that hard work to bend over." You said no one would do them if they didn't expect some reward? Well that reward comes from people who clearly find it impressive. If you're hatin on pregrabs, it's obviously just because you can't do them.

Now you have gone too far. Rodney Mullen did shit like that because that was part of skating at the time. But he literally invented to flat ground ollie making it possible to hit a ten stair. And he likely pioneered the trick one would do down that 10 set.


But pre-grabs are lame.

i love pre nose lol its so fun. Skiing isnt just about progressioin or looking cool. Its about having fun. Messing around with pre nose spins is just fun.

So its kinda like lazy boy and kinda not. I can lazyboy 3 and I can pre nose 180. So what I do is I grab left hand and left nose, carve/skid off the takeoff and throw your other arm thats not grabbing to set your spin since you cant pop pre nose. You have to set it with body and not pop. Its really weird holding the nose in air but once you get it its really fun.

I get your point but I gotta disagree. It’s just a personal thing everyone has different ideas of what looks good. And to me anyone who isn’t afraid to be themselves and do what tricks they like, gets more respect from me than someone who just does what they think others like to see done. Like it’s literally what action sports are about, it’s a combination of two different worlds the first being skill and athletic ability, mixed with art and self expression. Which is what makes action sports so cool, if you can imagine it and have the skill to pull it off you can do it and to me that’s the definition of creativity and self expression and I think that should be celebrated. Granted if you post something online you open yourself up to criticism just comes with the territory 🤷🏾‍♂️.

Not to mention the reason bonelesses started on skateboards back in the day was because the shape of boards didn't allow for high or consistent ollies. Once boards had camber and pop ollie's and tech tricks took off. Not saying that's the reason Mike did them but they have their roots in the sport, it's not just a fad trick. Pregrab on skis is purely fad / innovation with no purpose. Very different than bonelesses.
