Newer Vishnus improved durability?

I got a pair of Vishnu Wets like 3 years ago I think and they basically blew up over the course of ONE season.
Their first year out, they had literally no edge left underfoot (replaced with epoxy), the sidewalls were all cracked and shattered and held in place with epoxy, and one of the tips had been delamming more and more every time I took them out.

I pretty much skipped the entirety of last ski season because of some injuries and personal things going on but I'm back hard now and my old V's have been terrifying to ride on.

I have not gone more than two days skiing where I haven't ripped another inch of edge out on the hill and had to replace it with more epoxy. Bits of wood, core material, and sidewall are chipping and falling out the sides of the skis underfoot. They're in really bad shape but they are the most fun skis I've ever owned.

Anyway, I really want to get another pair next season but I'm worried about the durability. Does anyone have any experience with this year's or last year's Vishnu Wet? Are they any better? 3 seasons out of a $400 ski would ordinarily be really good but, as I said, I barely took them out at all last season and most of the damage happened within my first 100 days riding them. I really don't wanna buy another ski that's in shambles after one season.

Did moisture get into them? World of a difference between a soaked core and a dry one in terms of damage prognosis; it sounds like yours were rotting out

I wouldn't imagine that the construction has changed. Destroying a ski over the course of a single season is not that ridiculous. If you hit a lot of rails then i would be surprised if that didn't happen. my pairs of wets each lasted about a year for me, which i consider very reasonable, especially since they were about $400 in the presale. cant think of any other skis that have the same level of durability for that price. And I dont think any skis exists that can survive three full seasons of hitting rails

that's more or less a season for me and most of my homies can easily get 2 seasons out of their skis

do I need to lower my expectations?

My revolts are super abused but still going strong. I have duck tape on one tip. Some ptex in the base and that's all I've done to repair them. I've had gnarly crashes, taken them off cliffs, learned how to do most of my rail tricks on them, skied in every possible condition in them. Tons of small damage but nothing major like edge cracks or sidewall blowouts. My Kartels also have virtually zero damage with the same use and abuse. Besides the core being broken on one of them, that is, but I believe that to be unrelated to hitting rails. Maybe it's because I'm not hitting rails all day every day like you midwest and east coasters, but I can't even count as high as the number of times I've violently crashed with both sets of skis yet they are still just as good for me as day 1.
Oh yeah I forgot to say I've had both pairs for 3 seasons.

This is why you take care of edge cracks or any damage as soon as it happens. Tip delamming a little bit? Epoxy and clamp it. Edge starting to peel up and out after a crack? Cut it out where the bend stops and fill the gap with epoxy. Hate to sound like an ass but it’s your fault for letting the skis get like that. Daily maintenance is needed to
keep any ski in good shape, because a lot of water can get into a ski with one day of riding. So if you get home from skiing and see you have a tiny gap between your edge and sidewall? Epoxy the hell out of it and repeat the next day.


I swear no one has the smarts to take care of their skis. People are so lazy and won’t do anything to help ski damage but they will love to bitch and whine about it and complain to everyone that their on3ps got caked in a season. Same shit as driving your car 10000 miles without changing the oil and asking the dealer why it blew up.

To answer your question, Vishnu construction has remained the same for years now. I don’t think they’ve ever made any changes to the wet since like 2016.

Shit I’m an idiot. And yeah I have to do the same exact thing. Only downside with vishnus is that the base is really thin so it will wear or peel off and expose the underside of the sidewall. I don’t mind dealing with it because the skis are so fun IMO

if you’re tired of constantly epoxying I would go for on3ps. Sure you’ll prob get the edge to rip out at some point but I know for a fact on those the base won’t wear away just because it’s so beefy. Sidewall is tuff too.


getting a 100 days out of any ski tho is pretty good tho in my opinion

I'm really out here expecting skis to last more than 100 days of railskiing

This honestly, if I never filed down my edge crack a couple different times on my on3ps I’d probably have no edge underfoot. I check my skis every time I get off the hill and debur them because burs can get caught on rails and cause the edge to peal out or get pushed into the base.


maintenance is required for anything and I love my skis too much to not do anything to them.

also let them dry and don’t let them outside overnight after skiing or if you have a ski rack and the road salt gets all over them hose them down. I let one pair of skis I had to because of shitty maintenance and since then I get multiple seasons of straight rails out of my skis

Also palm get the pluses, I saw emit write somewhere that they are going to have covers or someshit on the tips and tails so delams won’t be an issue. You’re also a bigger guy so the extra stiffness won’t be an issue

if I wanted anything other than the softest ski on the market I'd just bite the bullet and get on3p
and if chinesium is the price I pay for cheap buttery skis then so be it
I'll probably destroy whatever I'm on regardless of who makes it so it's also nice that I don't need to sink as much $$$ in to get V's

I dont remember why I think that but someone else mentioned it above as well so im leaning towards I actually saw it somewhere and didnt make it up.

Some do. After 500+ days my Volkl Karmas were in better shape than OP's description of his Wets.
