Do some ppl who buy used pre mounted skis for way too much money doing it for like psychological reasons?

Like just surfing around SS (sideline swap, not waffen) you see things like on3ps used for one season sold with bindings for like 700$ Obv its not a good deal but its almost as if some of the timid buyers are buying this used shit for the same reason ppl want to ride the same model ski that they see henrik or whatever pro skier riding on tv. Like i think there is some sort of validation these buyers want; like “well this guys equipment looks like it worked well for him and he seems to know what hes doing so im just gonna buy his used shit instead of trying to figure out which skis and which bindings and where to mount them and where to go to get them mounted well etc..

do you think its because of the validation aspect more or the “going with something you know will work” type psychological thing?

because there has to be some reason why theres so manny yuppies eager to buy other skiers end of season trash for 500-800$.

otherwise it makes no sense.

As a person who skied demo skis all through middle school and high school it was just a cheap way to get a decent pair of skis. I could buy last years skis already mounted for less than $500 and use them until they break without worrying about scratches or core shots

Same. I work in the rentals shop at my local resort and we sell all of our demos (some have never been used) for $200 cash at the end of every season. Of course I still have a pair of skis that I bought new this year and mounted bindings onto but there's nothing wrong with buying demos or someone else's old skis if your just looking for a cheap set of skis

I still cant believe you would pay that much for used skis. The best freestyle bindings attack2s are 140$ and you can snag plenty of great skis brand new for around 300. Mounted all together thats 450-480$.

Years ago I bought a pair of icelantic skis that were demo skis that had never touched a rail. I could have bought a brand new pair instead, but then after a single day of skiing they'd be in worse condition than the demos. Ended up saving a decent amount of money

first of all big claim calling the attacks the best binding.

this was the first year I've ever bought brand new skis with no proform and MAN it's expensive AF. New JJ UL's (only year they've done them otherwise I would have looked for a deal on past seasons) for $849.99 plus tax- a friend worked in the shop and got me $100 off. Bindings- pivot 15's on proform for $280 shipped I believe. Cast system- $400 USD shipped to canada. also bought armada edollos 2020 on sale from dstructure for $545 shipped, and pivot 12's for $220 shipped (clearance).

THAT'S A LOT OF FUCKING MONEY. and THAT is why I have bought used in the past.

idk what sick setup you're getting for $450. Maybe K2's cheapest intro park ski and some attack 10's?

Honestly, I usually find cheaper deals than proforms offer just casually looking online when I’m bored.

I don’t think buying used is necessarily bad if you get a good deal and know what you’re looking for. Although, I am noticing I am harder on my skis as time goes on so I have tended to buy new, as of late.

I do think there is some aspect of buying something from someone who seems to know what they’re doing. It’s just easier for a lot of people.

What does proform mean? Also i hear ya i just am surprised at how expensive some of the used equipment that actually sells is on SS.

I agree I think used stuff can have value it if its fairly priced and in good condition, but its retarded to be wanting near msrp for your used shit. i usually just look on Evo and get my stuff for 40+ percent off, BRAND new, with the factory warranty, just because it is last year's color or something.

I remember when I was less experienced and younger - Christy sports talked me out of pivots and into SPX12s.. for $250. Goddamn I’m so salty looking back

To be.honest tho man 350$ for used arvs with look spx bindings is not nearly as bad as some of the used shit online.

I think people are not paying that much. Pretty sure it’s more common that a seller is like I paid 1200 dollars for this set up I want to recoup my cost they are barely used!

Occasionally you get the really clueless guy that has his like first generation Seth Pistols on there for 500 dollars as if they aren’t almost 20 years old
