The state of the USPS

I’ve ordered a few car/computer parts recently and it’s not gone smoothly. when my GPU arrived the box was absolutely fucked, smashed corner, just beat. Hopefully it’s fine, but I won’t know because the power supply I ordered has been “in transit” with no updates for over a full week now. Same with some of the car parts I ordered. I could have my car up and running but it remains torn apart because I’m waiting on a part that has also seemingly disappeared off the face of the earth. 10 days now “in transit” no updates. “Expected delivery of 2/23” lmaooooo

I can’t complain too much because the USPS got absolutely gutted and bled dry by the Trump admin last year, but dumbass sleepy Joe should have fully funded it again by executive order IMMEDIATELY. Nothing against the postal workers whatsoever they work damn hard. But they’re set up for failure.


I need the shit I paid for tho...

I had to micromanage FedEx for 3 weeks with multiple phone calls to get them to finally find my package that had been sitting in an empty truck at a storage facility in Central California.

I think why usps is so screwed up is the pandemic, so many more online orders and then all that cold weather across the country. Can always open a usps package search case on a slow item to help shake it loose so to speak

Explain why FedEx and UPS haven’t had the same problems with the pandemic and the cold weather then. You can’t blame it on the pandemic and weather when UPS/FedEx are running faster and smoother than USPS despite the same circumstances.


also, opening up a dispute with USPS is a fucking joke. Their customer service doesn’t have any more information than what’s on your tracking page so they’re just as clueless as the people at the post office. I can honestly say that every package I’ve ordered via USPS in the last 2-3 years has never arrived at the “arrive by date” that it was supposed to arrive on. They’re always at least a day late.

The reason the private sector had to recieve so many bailouts is because of shutdowns. Not rocket science that businesses fail when the government makes it impossible for them to operate. Also, in a free market it is not the governments responsibilty to bail out failing business.

Capitalism creates incentive to solve problems and innovate. Government controll does not. Those skis you ride on are a direct result of capitalism creating something. You think a state would have provided that?

First off, no, capitalism does not create incentive, it creates profit. Humans innovated long before it ever existed, to argue otherwise is ahistorical. Second, the alternative to capitalism is not government control. The US government is an instrument of capitalism, it is the expression of capitalist interests. Both liberals and conservatives advocate for competing versions of capitalism. I'm not advocating for liberal reformism and if you chuds watched the video I posted you'd realize that. There's too much unpacking to do with your take on skis being built under capitalism but the long and short is that you're an idiot if you think skis can't be built without it. They've existed since 6000 BC lmao.

Here's another video that every single person in this thread could benefit from watching but probably won't because "muhh guberment bad" is about the depth and extent of thought their goldfish brain can handle.

Does anyone actually think that a private business could have done the same thing the post office did? Provide affordable mail service to every corner of a rapidly expanding country?
Maybe it's time to cut back what USPS does since a lot can be done electronically now or through another carrier, but the whole "government program bad because government program" arguement is pretty stale.

When the first US post office was created in the 1770's it was about getting military orders and intel where it needed to go and getting news distributed to the colonies in an efficient and secure manner so that they could build a nation from the ground up with support from their countrymen. Communication was needed so they made it happen and from that it was able to evolve into a system where everyone gets an address and you can get grandmas birthday card delivered right to your door a week late. Private enterprise big enough to make that happen on a national scale simply didn't exist yet.

You won't find me attacking the idea of a USPS. The size of the department and what they should be involved in is another story. What I find absurd is the bureaucracy, the mismanagement, and the inefficiency of the system as it is today. The government has allowed the failures to metastasize.

The USPS doesn't understand what customer service is because they don't need to understand it. They just continue to exist indefinitely as they are... because government.

The USPS cuts secret bulk rate discount and special delivery contracts with Amazon and other members of the The Package Coalition to undercut private sector shippers to bypass the competitive market. Then they want to turn around and ask for bailout money? It's silly and its all broken.

It's a cyclical problem caused by themselves because they can't get out of their own way. Government causing government problems is nothing new. It's one of the only things they're really good at. The only reason why people find the argument so stale is because the taste is so familiar.

A corporation ALWAYS has making money its number one priority right?

That means the best interests of people will always suffer on the bottom line. Therefore if everyone needs a service, there will be a ton of people who don't receive the same standards if its not profitable. Texas just froze after 20 years of Republican leadership privatizing their public utilities and needed federal aid and gofundmes. Fuck that bullshit of being independent because the profit margins don't provide any safety net

Ordered binding parts from voile, USPS won't deliver to houses in my area of Tahoe and the post office will only hold packages for 4 days plus they have terrible hours so it's impossible for me to make it there while working at a ski resort.

Decided to ship them to my girlfriend's house instead so I would be able to get them and not have them sent back. Turns out USPS still sent my shit back because I put my name for the address and the delivery person decided that they haven't seen that name on that address before and sent it back anyway

Conservatives memed on California for having rolling blackouts in a bunch of parts of the state this summer and accused their poor leadership. Rolling blackouts affected a bunch of areas for a few hours at a time but shifted the imbalance around. Texas has a supply and demand power grid so when there was a shortage of power, prices spiked drastically and people who couldn't afford it were days without power and heat.

They had a similar crisis in 2011, but winterizing costs money and it wasn't required for companies to upgrade to avert future disasters. The companies didn't because muh profits, and Republicans blamed wind power.

zuesI forgot that it snows in Texas once every century. How dare they waste money on snowplows, salt and salt. I'm sure investing in equipment thats never used is a smart move.

My company is from Texas. The last time they had a storm like this was literally 80 years ago. You're the type of person who thinks money grows on trees right? If only Texas had plows and salt to use once every five decades. Oh yea I'm sure the tax payers would love that!!
