Excluding jazz chords I enjoy jazz chords but regular basic open chords sound like aids to my ears

eh how do they necessarily sound bad? besides having issues with the g string. Have you progressed to barre chords yet?

Oh yeah I’m on the caged theory now, I’m playing chords all over the fretboard but the chords I just can’t get behind are open, maybe it’s because of my amps setting or something I’ll upload a video showing what I mean

The g and b string will always kind of sound off no matter what you do. Although i usually tune my b string a tad down when i’m playing power chord based songs.

Honestly it depends on how committed you’ll be, if you feel like it’s something you’ll want to constantly work on I’d suggest getting something higher in the price range like a fender Stratocaster, it’s in my opinion the guitar that everyone should own it’s super versatile and every guitarist who is a famous guitarist has probably had one. Same thing with Amps I’d suggest getting an orange amp if you’re going the extra money mile (any one you get is good to me at least). But if you feel like it’s something you want to test out try getting an entry level guitar like a squire strat with a fender mustang amp, I started on a pretty Ass acoustic but then was like I require more so I got a relatively inexpensive electric guitar with a relatively inexpensive amp and I’m chillin for now, I’m saving for a better electric though or an acoustic I’m not sure what my bipolar ass will end up choosing lmao

Also the nice thing about fender strats is their price stays consistent, if you buy one at a music store for like $600 you can easily resell it for the exact same price no questions asked, same with amps they only lose value depending on what their model is

Well first of all gilmour and frusciante use the same type of guitar. i’d just recommend a squier stratocaster since they’re cheap and usually not ass, they are usually 200-300 new. In terms of amps you could use garageband with an irig if you’ve got an apple computer. Otherwise there’s cheap software out there that’ll work just as well as a shitty amp. You don’t even need an amp to learn, i was ampless my first 6 months playing.

Ah yes the irig works pretty well… I have a amp so I generally drift more towards the amp but the irig works pretty well if your beginning out, there are some cool effects but I’d personally prefer the actual pedal and amp… if you do get the irig or any iteration of that I’d definitely plug headphones in because it sound better, plus if you are into it you can use the drum machine on garage band and add stuff to your guitar playing.

If you google G string sounds like shit when played open there is like a small countries worth of people complaining about the same problem. I have the same issue but I have a cheap electric guitar that hasn’t been professionally set up- do not have this issue on any of my acoustics fortunately. Someone told me once you just don’t play open chords on electrics but obviously tons of people do and it’s fine- maybe a compression pedal would help idk

To me it sounds like your intonation is a little off and you need to get your guitar set up. That's what makes it sound out of tune on certain notes even when you tuned it. But if you're talking about the B and G strings just sounding thin when you play them open heavier strings help in my experience. I think open chords also sound way better on the neck pickup if you haven't tried that

Mostly just been playing my acoustic. Love the thing. Bought a mitchel off a recommendation a year and a half ago and it's my favorite thing. Bought en electric(epiphone les paul) in the spring but haven't played it really and is stored tilll i move back to Washington. Got on an electric last week here and dug it though. Also started drumming again well like 3 times but gonna pick up my electric kit in CA and bring it back for the winter.

Hoping to start jamming with people. Was cool playing a little music at hood. I live pretty remote in WA though. Also have roommates so headphone lyfe eoth the electric.

It's hard to notice progress sometimes but I've def gotten a lit better.

Idk guitars are fun.

I play a small bit myself. I brought my Yamaha classical acoustic across the pond but ended up buying a new Adam Black acoustic after I played it here at the music shop. I have a few more acoustics back home in storage along with a few electrics including a pretty cool custom Jackson a friend modified many years back. I am always drawn back to the acoustic though.
