So, I have this beat-to-hell pair of old Volkl Walls that I use to ride backyard jibs. I noticed they were looking even more beat than usual:
If you look closely you can see that a good 10" of base has delamed from the sidewall on this side of the ski. I have no idea how I didn't notice sooner or for how long I've been skiing like this.
You may be thinking, these skis are now garbage, and you would be absolutely right. They should be thrown away and none of the below should be attempted. However, I was in possession of a tube of JB Weld and a mountain of lockdown-induced boredom.
The through-crack in the edge gave me a convenient mid-point. I mashed as much epoxy into one side of the gap as I could, clamped the dickens out of it, and let it cure for 24h.
Here's the result of step 1:
I then repeated the process on the other side of the crack:
After curing I scraped away most of the excess epoxy with a box cutter. I might sand it flush or I might leave it as-is in all its horrendous glory. Here's the final result:
NS, what's the verdict? Should I take these bad boys to the resort and try to throw some dubs? Or will they explode immediately upon contact with PVC, killing me instantly?
