Utah trip advice

So like mid March me and a couple other guys are planning a trip to drive from Wisconsin to Utah to ski and I’m wondering if anyone has any advice. Right now we are planning on leaving Friday, going to Brighton Sunday, snowbird Monday, and then head back. We mainly ski park in Wisconsin but we wanna ski some real stuff on this trip. The car we are taking there is only 2 wheel drive and I’ve read that for some roads you either need 4wd or chains if there is a storm. Will this be an issue? Any advice would be appreciated, thanks!

that being said, those days look dry (depending on storm sat) so you may be fine, especially Monday. There is a bus also just get there early

I personally don’t find either bcc or lcc that hard of a drive compared to some high mountain passes in CO or even some of the icy backroads through VT or NH. If it’s dry (looks like it on Monday at least) should be a piece of cake and beautiful.

If the weather is bad you can park at the bottom of the canyon and take the Uta bus up to Brighton, not sure about Snowbird though

Why does everyone wanna come to utah now? Utah sucks, Colorado is obviously better, legal weed, no mormons and better drinking laws, go there!

Not true at all, this is terrible information. LCC/BCC can have adverse snow conditions until may.

Alright heres the deal, if the roads are just wet you will be fine, most roads around SLC will be nbd. But the cottonwoods can be a different beast and you do not want to be that guy who is stuck half way up blocking traffic. If you do not have 4x4, by law you must have chains if restrictions are in place, which basically happens whenever it snows 5"+, so ya it would be a good idea to carry chains just in case.

OP, please don't take advice from a midwesterner on how to navigate utah roads and laws. it's perfectly normal for it to snow well through march and april in the mountains in utah.

eheath had pretty sound advice. the valley roads are rarely snowy in march, but you gain 4000+ feet of elevation driving up to the resorts, so the road conditions down low can be misleading. if the traction law is in effect, trust that conditions up top are probably sketchy. just bring chains, or use the ski bus if it's really bad and you're worried about it.

Snowbird on Monday is gonna be so fucking fun. Pow days are great but man no clouds no winds warm temps no stress with a good base is just gonna be amazing. Have fun dudes. Drive should be a breeze then. Honestly the most annoying part of the trip will be coming in on i80 Saturday if it’s storming and potentially crowds Sunday.

I will be at home in CO enjoying >3% beer skiing worse terrain with less snow but having a blast.

Very true but yeah don’t get caught. My friend just got busted for less than an 8th coming home from SLC. Now he’s got a big ass fine, and more importantly they took his weed and his bong.

With that said, I’ve done all kinds of fun shit out there, just don’t get kicked out of your hotel like me lol
