Replying to Corbets Tricks (Skiing in general)
Just saying:
Here you have individuals that "professionally" do doubles (i.e. compete in slope, pipe, big air...ect compititions). When presented the opportunity to compete in a "fun" comp (off the beaten path) they creatively do (what I have seen so far) a zero and a hand drag 3 in to Corbets. My mind was blown as I usually see either some variations of a dub back or seven. Then you have the individual that won last year do the exact same trick... where is the variation? If you have so much talent, why not show it off and do a "hand drag 3" or go full Jossi style and zero in to Corbets? (not naming names or anything, but cough cough A Hall and Aaron Blunk)
My reason for posting this is that variation and pushing the limits of style is something that is partially there in the skiing world (those that do that are often rewarded).... Maybe think of it this way: Here you get invited to a, I want to say "Iconic competition", but I am not sure how long it has been around for. Regardless it is Corbets after all...Wouldn't you wan to put on a show and leave the entire audience at awe? Maybe my expectations are too high... However, there needs to be a push in skiing for variation. This includes all competitions (maybe not racing): moguls, pipe, slope, big air, knuckle huck ect. Athletes might not push them selves and just act as a robot (same thing, no style). If you are not one of those, I support you. For all others, maybe the style and innovation or reintroduction of tricks/grabs should be a requirement for getting a spot on the podium. Riders should be judged on this. I feel that some of what Vincent Gagnier has done is a prime example. This sport needs to move somewhere and spin to win sure aint it. We need variation! It is almost painful to see the same thing over and over again...If you really want to continue on your path, then great. Maybe the answer becomes perfection like TWallisch 's landings (as if he never left the ground) I dream of the days of watching comps and asking my self at the end, "what did I just see??"
My 2 cents, I would love to hear what others think!
