Summer ski jobs?

Can’t speak to this as far as windells go, but I know places like Squaw and mammoth, when they stay open late, struggle for workers. It’s one of the big hindrances to staying open later in season - people start jobs for summer elsewhere and move away

I bet bachelor or meadows has some late season stuff. Whis usually keeps like a 3rd of the mtn open into June on a good snow year

Windells most definitely hires for just the summer. Work starts early June through mid to late August and you are expected to be there the entire time. Generally the work week is 8 days on then off for 2 days during the in-betweens. Depending on the department you might have to work one or two of them. Some departments don't need to work at all during the in-betweens.

It's definitely competitive. A lot of employees know each other but you do not necessarily need to have an "in" per se. I'm not 100% sure on the numbers so don't quote me on this part but lots of the coaches are pros/ams/friends of pros or have been working for camp for a long time. The media team is super competitive. Counselors seemed to always know each other before camp. Kitchen, demo/retail, office, and medics not so much. I guess if I needed to rank them it would be coaching/media as the most competitive followed by counselors, then medics, then kitchen, demo/retail and office are kind of all equal. I personally didn't really have an in. I just made a cringey video for my application about loving summer camp and skiing lol.

Windells is a super dope place. Definitely the most fun job I've ever had and I'd definitely recommend it to any college kid looking for a way out of their real life for a few months. It's challenging financially so if you need to support yourself, it may be tough. I feel like a lot of people there either had parents to back them up or they had a good gig outside of camp time. You definitely need to have the right mindset and be 100% committed to that place or it can be extremely draining.

funny cause my friends said the same exact thing, I have know somebody at Windells but I'm looking to make money, not ski year round. I get to ski and make (some) money right now and don't want to give that up.

Bachelor has MT biking and the silly rope deal now. One can almost work year round there.
If you want to ski, maybe go to the Southern Hemisphere.

Mountain biking/rafting/fly fishing guide are the other jobs im looking into. put a little thought into chile skiing or maybe the alps but my language skills are pretty one dimensional and I figured that would make things fairly difficult.

As for the money aspect, I would need to at least net and its starting to sound like thats impossible at whis

im also blessed enough to live in VA right next to the snowflex complex, using that as a backup plan as I would rather not live in mommas basement all summer

Jobs in the bend area are quite competitive as too many folks want to live there.

Summer ski resort jobs are super competitive as there are very few.

Maybe Beartooth basin has some opportunity as its in the middle of nowhere.

No- they pay for you to have a season pass($1,000+), housing for 3 months and you get 3 meals each day you work. That’s all factored into your compensation. The cash you earn is minimal tbh but it’s fine if you’re there for the experience.

Rafting is a good time. First summer you might break even on training, gear, and living costs but if you come back you'll start to make decent money. Its a riot. The whitewater community is the best outdoor community IMO.

No need to beat around the bush here. First year diggers/kitchen got paid 80$ (after tax) per 7 day session. You don’t get your free meals during the 2-3 day in between

Generally Blackcomb closes mid-April, and Whistler closes late May (or vis versa). Being open in June used to be fairly common, but I think it's only happened once in the past decade. It has consistently been May long weekend since Vail bought the mountain and the bike park is so big now that it draws more people and money than skiing would.

Glacier skiing on Blackcomb offers a handful of jobs working for the mountain and various camps, but only for 5 or 6 weeks (mid-June to mid-July). And that's best case scenario, last season got shut down and every year there's less glacier left.

Of course they do keep lifts running for biking and tourists all summer, so there are still jobs on the mountain. They just aren't ski jobs.
