ski_salmon69I’m super hyped to see what Markus Eder will do this year, his run in Fieberbrunn last year was insane
Skiamoni thought markus wasn't competing,
zoinkedcant fucking wait, its starting next week right
DrailIf I am reading it correctly, they are going back to live coverage this year?
skeirmanIs NS going to cover it?
TwigWould love to hear people's take on this. We could, and we have done recap articles in recent years. But traffic and engagement have been so poor on FWT content, especially compared to Big Air/Slope events, that it probably isn't worth using our pretty limited resources.

BiffbarfWhy is it that the FWT is the sickest shit in skiing but only like 6 people watch it every year

skeirmanWould really dig FWT coverage here on NS, because this is where I come for ski info, and I do that because of the community. I would love to see coverage of stuff other that freestyle, especially freeride type stuff. I can't stand TGR, and FWT coverage is whack. I feel like a broader spectrum of coverage could only help Newschoolers. Plus there is nothing going on right now. No comps, no big edits.
Just like a daily wrap up with clips of the top runs and the standings would be cool, and maybe info on where and when the next stop is. Enough to allow me not to have to go to the FWT page.
jps2.0it seems like none of the New Zealand skiers are competing :(
DrailRoss deserved the win, and the podium feels right for me, but holy shit, Mael deserves the sick bird (is that still a thing?) for that 3 into the pinner chute. Who even thinks about trying something like that.
Hopefully they can squeeze another go while.they are in Andora.

skeirmanWhat's up with the airbags? Have they done this before?

highpeakJudging continues to blow. No clue how Tabke got an 80 or whatever it was. Think the top 5 for austria was in the right order, although you could make a case for Turdell being 1st. Ross's top section was bonkers but he really didn't have a bottom section. Can't say I blame him with how flat it was, but something to consider still.
Wish Aymar and Yann landed their runs, would have made things super interesting.
Anybody got a favorite for Verbier?
BigPurpleSkiSuitWhat the fuck guys?
Friday: Conditions are all time on the Bec, it should be great!
Today: So high wind has scoured the entire face, making it unsafe to ride, so we will hold the final on a different face.
Was it avy conditions that made it unsafe on Friday, or what happened?

Drailthat is disappointing news. I really wanted to see what Ross Tester could do on the Bec. Either way, my money is on him taking the title. I think he needs at least a 6th or 7th place finish to win if my math is correct. If he does - he would only be the second ever to win the title on his rookie year on the tour (after Candide) yeah?
BigPurpleSkiSuit3rd behind Freeland now, but everyone knew Freeland and Tester were absolute beasts coming into the tour.
highpeakI say this without even being a big Tabke fan, but he continues to get robbed. Last two stops he stomped technical and freestyle-filled lines and got low 80's. Not big on Turdell taking the win, think Navarro should have gotten it. Seems like doing a backy just adds 10 points to your score. Also, heckle me all you want but the one redbull athlete winning the comp with Ross 4th (exactly what was needed for the overall title) is sus.
Ross's run was pretty fairly scored, wish he had tricked both the cross-court hit and the extra credit, probably would have given him the overall title.
Also too bad reine couldn't put it down, would like to think that would have won.
TheDoughAbidesNavarros line was wild and incredible to watch but easily replicable as shown by Reine, he also practically stopped when he got to the traverse and didn’t throw any tricks. Not to take anything away from the size of his balls but he followed a well tracked traverse and then pointed it down a massive easy to spot double. Turdells run was much more fluid and far more difficult to pull off in terms of finding that air that no one else had hit without any hesitation. You can bitch all you want about how throwing in a windlip backie is just an extra credit token that shouldn’t have given turdell the win. But as shown by reine (again) it was a risky move that could’ve gone wrong. turdell was rightfully rewarded for successfully adding it to his line. Don’t worry Navarro isn’t going anywhere and neither is his style of riding given the level of attention he’s getting.
highpeakI think you make some very fair points. Would disagree on fluidity though, Navarro probably had the quickest line of the day. Nothing more fluid than straightlining half the face, although Turdell is still fluid per usual. Overall, Navarro and Turdell each had two main hits. Navarro with the double and Turdell with the cliff he opened and the backie. I'd argue the double wins both from size, risk, and how much faster Navarro went. Ik Turdell had another decent cliff up top, but I'd assume the backie helped his score more. Agree to disagree I guess, Turdell's run was insane dont get me wrong.
Also, I wasn't bitching, just think it's fair to say tricks seem to be favored over technicality in recent years. Sometimes that's fair, sometimes I think it's too skewed. And not worried bout Navarro going anywhere but thanks for the reassurance :)
TheDoughAbidesI would hate to see fwt turn into something like The natural selection tour.
TheDoughAbidesI imagine similar discussions go on amongst the judges throughout the season. I completely agree about maintaining the balance between tricks and technicality. I would hate to see fwt turn into something like The natural selection tour.
But at the end of the day tricks earn clicks so I wouldn’t be surprised if the fwt marketing team tries to push the tour in a freestyle direction to some degree for that reason :/
