Just an outsiders perspective... before I started listening to rap I thought it was ghetto crap too. Then you get into it and realize how naive you were and how unfair it is to just call it "ghetto music".

I've never understood this either....I would also like to get real artists takes on using "clean" versions of their songs. Say for example 50's Many Men clean vs og track, feel like it's insulting and takes away from the vibe. There's definitely a place for them tho in a professional scenario
That boomer making that “ghetto stuff” comment is a part of the same crowd that shoe horns black artists into the “urban music” category regardless of the kind of music they make.
Why can’t some people accept that rap and hip hop is just music. People treat it like it’s something totally alien when chances are they’d probably enjoy some of it. Still proud to catch my dad listening to occasional rap when the rest of my family isn’t into it

If you watch old MSP, PBP, and TGR movies from the early 2000s, there are tons of songs with super offensive lyrics, lots of hilarious antics and general degenerate behavior.
Everybody was cool with it back then because people understood that newschool skiing was a an extreme sport with a counter-culture vibe, similar to skateboarding.
Then sometime in the mid-late 2000s, all of the mainstream movies got soft as fuck, probably because of people like this complaining.

I've always thought is weird to put rap about killing people and exploiting women into a ski video filmed at a ski resort. Just feels like a tacky rich white boy thing to do. Most kids just use new wave rap auto-tune nonsense music in their little tik toks or insta clips these days which doesn't really bother me.

I think that's a bit too cynical. I always liked rap because of its raw and intense rhythmic characteristics. There's something about a phat 808 kick that goes so well with a switch bolts landing, like cheese and wine. Grinding metal against metal at high speeds is inherently aggressive, which is why aggressive music has always complemented it so well.

I once got in trouble with my parents a few years back for posting an Instagram video with a $b song in it lol, I think that interaction was similar to this one.
dude this is nothing compared to moves from around 1999 - 2002, go watch PBP 13 or Ski Movie I and listen to the lyrics I'm pretty sure I would get banned if I typed them out here
