looking at some skis for next year and am thinking about wildcat 108s. im currently on chetler 100s and love them, and i see that the wildcats are quite a bit heavier, so I'm kind of unsure. is this pretty normal just because of the 8mm difference? id probably be mouting these with the cast touring thing so I'm looking for a ski that si sorta light so i can tour with it a little bit. so do you think the extra weight would make it a bummer for touring the wildcat over the chetler? and do you have any suggestions for other skis i should concider?
The Chetler 100 is a crazy light ski, I got some Wildcat 101s and would still consider them a fairly light all mountain ski. If I recall they made them a bit heavier from last year to improve performance. I wouldn't be too concerned if I was you. Have you read the Blister review on the WC 108? If not go check it out, it goes into great detail on the ski. I think they also have the Chetler 100 reviewed so you can do your own comparison.
They do make a wildcat 108 tour that is the same shape and rocker but has a little notch in the tail to hold skins and is lighter.
that said the regular wildcat 108 isn’t exactly heavy, it’s barely over 2000 grams per ski, a truly heavy ski would he 300+ grams heavier.
Heavier skis tend to be better for higher speed skiing while lighter skis tend to be better for tricks and low speed skiing. There are some outliers to this theory, light skis that can go fast and heavy skis that are playful like the black ops118, but in general heavier = higher speed limit and smoother ride, less playful.
