How long are your skis?

Recently I have seen lots of comments about the length of Andri Ragletti's skis, and although it is a personal choice, people have lots of different ideas of how long skis should be. What length did you choose and why? Is there a minimum length somebody should ski based on their height? I'm 5'10" and I ski a 183 faction prodigy. I ski mostly all mountain but dive into the park occasionally so I wanted a long ski that would be stable at high speed, but still soft and playful enough to hit some park laps.

👍🏻 Long as you like em! I think it’s an awesome ski, just didn’t have the same opinion on flex, I’m also only 1/2” taller maybe 5lbs heavier, I lost 30 lbs and it is just a great ski weight for me, for me tho, anything mounted farther fwd than -6 def gotta be 190+ ski, love my bacons but I go over the handlebars every time I ride em

I’m with you. Not sure what these guys using for frame of reference but I also has the dragon collabs and they are not a soft ski. Awesome all mountain, love them in the park, but not conducive to nollies/nose blocks/wheelies/etc. Great pop but not exactly “playful”

FIS racing background, long skis ain't a problem.

Probably going to add the Dynastar M-Free 99 next year, not sure what sizes they're offering. I think longest I heard was a 186, which is probably more like a 182 (if it measures same way as the Protos)

I was on head Kore’s before my prodigy’s so I’m used to a pretty stiff ski. Also grew up racing so anything without a metal plate in it is soft compared to what I’m used to

6'2" and quiver ranges from 185-191. I've skied 174 k2 backstash's in the past and enjoyed them for mellow touring around but def felt short and squirly on anything lift served. I don't care what she says, she's lying and a couple inches do matter.

Local consignment place has an older pair. They're so fuckin meaty and look like they've had literally one run on em. They look like fuckin rockets that don't bend til 60mph

That makes sense man when I got back into skiing it was strictly for park (and grew up in Minnesota so nobody needed a stable ski because the biggest jumps were 25 ft and all of us were lapping rails). I grew up skiing K2 public enemy’s, and then line invaders (you could damn near fold them bitches in half)

B00NEYour skis should be around nose height on average. Your skis are probably too big for you. You want them around nose height because they’re more maneuverable for your height. Having a ski too big is like skiing on a railroad track

181 4FRNT Kye 110s, 185 Black Crows Noctas, I'm 5'7" 145lbs (171cm 65kg) right now I'm casually shopping for something shorter 175ish. My home mountain used to be Squaw Valley which has a lot of open terrain and now I'm skiing mainly at Cypress Mountain which has less vert, much tighter trees, and doesn't have the open high alpine lines like Squaw.

It's really all about personal preference and purpose. For dedicated park skiing I like a ski tip to be somewhere between my chin and forehead but my deep-days sticks are just above my head. For reference I'm 6'1" and ski a 193 prodigy 4, which has actually become more of a daily driver for me. It still handles the occasional trip through the park but it's certainly hefty for some tricks.

My usual skiing is broad woods/sidecountry and finding top speeds in chop, so the larger ski feels great and this models shape helps with quick movements (relatively) in trees. I would never use this ski if I still lived on the east coast but for use in the west on everything apart from low-tide early season stuff it's a blast.

My Chronics are +8cm from my height. At first I really second-guessed the size, but it can def works for what I do in the park, plus blunts are way steezier and easier with longer skis.

Ordered the first pair from EU because they hadn't sold the ski in the US for a while.

Second pair was special order on TGR as I figured they still wouldn't bring them back to the US.

Turns out, they have.....So it's a pair I don't REALLY need but am afraid to sell because knowing my luck, they'd stop bringing them to the US the season I do.

I had the 2012 105s in a 175 when I was in NZ. I stumbled across an ex-demo and they were pristine.

They were probably the most solid ski off-piste I’ve ever ridden. They were so fun. But boy did they hate to carve lol They were made for slashing

Like missiles.

Any time you have crud, they slay.

I usually take a trip or two out west (Snowbird or JH) and they get used as DDs out there. Also ski them out east on occasion if the mountains are empty. Probably going to add a shorter more playful option for here though.

I love them FWIW.

This reminds me of a guy I knew who was around 5’10” 240lbs on some 158 K2 sights. Come to find out, the person who told him to get those skis was the same woman who bragged to me that she found her ski boots in a dumpster. She instructed too, which makes it even worse in my mind.

His roommate used to call him “elephant on toothpicks”

I am 6' 3" and before recently have always bought the longest length in whatever ski model I ended up getting. After getting to do my first demo day though I realized that I like mid 180's skis way better than 190 + skis. I am not a super heavy guy which I think plays into it, but I think for my ski style the extra maneuverability actually helps me to charge more confidently while having more fun playing around. Totally personal preference and changes drastically from ski to ski.

sorry bud, but might be a lack of skill unless you mean like the enforcer 193cm skis, there the 185 is actually stiffer and better (like the 93/110) :p

Ha, I am definitely not claiming to be the best skier on here so it could totally be my skill level, but for reference, I ski my BC 120 at a 192 at that is definitely the right length for me. A lot more stable than the 184. However, skiing the 184 cm deathwish side by side with the 190 deathwish I honestly felt like that extra 6cm didn't do much in terms of stability and just made them more cumbersome and less fun. There are some skis where the extra length makes a big difference and is worth it, but for me at least a lot of times it's not. The fact that pro skiers have different tastes in lengths in my mind highlights that it is more about preference and ski style.

189+ I personally wish most of my skis were in the 195-200 range if I'm being honest since I don't do much in the way of tricks and enjoy stability and playfulness.
