wut if u mounted snowboard bindings on some decently wide skis. im sure everyone has already though of this but i cant find any pics.

probably way worse performance and skis really weird? yes. comfy? yes. way cooler and more useless? heck ya! completely unnecessary? also yes

I know they make snowboards that break in half down the middle and you can use them as touring skis and put it back together to go down the hill as snowboard again.

Somebody gave be some ski blades mounted with snowboard bindings. Things were sketchy but awesome. I think they only sent me to the hospital once so not too bad.

i literally mean normal snowboard bindings mounted forwards on normal skis and u skid with snowboard boots

I've seen an edit where some guys were riding shitty old rock skis with snowboard bindings on them, doubt I could find it though. It is possible

Lack of release aside, the issue is that the force applied to a ski boot/binding is many, many times greater than its snowboard counterpart. On a snowboard, you have the tip and tail of the board much closer to the boots and bindings, and any force from the tip or tail is spread out over both feet. A ski's tip and tail are much farther from single pivot point of a single boot/binding, creating a ton of torque. Make that pivot point even farther from the tips and tails by using the underfoot mount of a snowboard binding, and you lengthen the lever and increase the torque even more.

You could certainly ride soft snow at slow speed, but if you tried to push it or ran into firm/choppy snow you'd pretty quickly break the binding, the mount, your leg, or some combination of the three.

Idk about you but my ski boots are super comfortable. Also I strap them down super tight so my foot doesn’t move and I have more control. Not as easy in a snowboard boot.

Agreed, but I (begrudgingly) sell the shit out of them to old white men and women. On the positive side, they can be easier to get in and out of for people with dorsal flexion issues AND you have extremely average shaped feet. On every other side, they're absolute trash.

Apex boots look like a cute idea, but i doubt they will catch on to anybody besides liftees and maybe some ski patrollers.



I feel like the ppl who think apex boots are their answer probably just have yet to find a normal PU boot that is comfy. I dont know how rigid the soft inside of the apex boot is but if its too soft its probably not going to perform that well. The point of a normal boot is that the PU shell distributes the force of each buckle over a large area. Without that force distribution you will feel like only the regions under the buckles are tight enough, or they are too tight there and too loose everywhere else.

Also op, snowboard bindings dont need to hold up to forces as high as ski boots when flexing forward or backwards because to get a snowboard on its frontside or backside edge is an easy job leverage wise.

but to butter on a ski you have to put a huge force on the front or back of your boot, and that force has to be transferred through the boot and binding into the ski without any part of the chain flexing much at all.

a snowboard boot and binding probably arent designed to be able to carry that amount of leverage.

maybe some snowboard boots/bindings are stiff enough for the job, but it would surprise me if so bc there is no need for that stiffness on a snowboard/boot/binding.

I do this on occasion and it’s actually pretty fun. I’ve got fulltilts so I just flip the tongue down which also lets the heel of the liner lift out so basically I’m pretty much a teleskier🤷‍♂️

This is something people do quite a bit to teach/learn being balanced in you stance. There have also long been rumors of a DPS boot, and the last time I heard one of their guys talk about it he specifically mentioned how much he loved the feel of riding with loose/open boots on mellow tours.
