Skiing life at cu Boulder??

Ski76Lived in Colorado for 7 years as a kid, went to copper and winter park mainly. Now live in Illinois and deciding on college. What’s the ski life at Boulder? Looking for a good mix between partys, academics and skiing and I think boulders it.

honestly, all my homies who go there don't ski, but have gotten a little into skiing because of their newer friends. granted, i know one was failing a few classes but the party scene there is pretty solid at least haha.

Eldora is the main resort. It has a good park and some fun tree skiing, but the resort gets noticeably less snow than the I-70 resorts and has gotten a lot more crowded in the last five years. Boulder is only about 45 minutes from Eldora and not too far from the Summit County resorts, so if you have an Ikon pass it's a good option.

CUFST is legit, I did it Freshman year back in 2006. Do they still do the embroidered Oakley puffy Jackets? I had mine up until last year when the zipper finally broke. I actually had half a plan to hand it down to one of you kids but the zipper got fucked. Anyway what dorm are you in?

To the OP. CU is a huge school so its up to you to find a good crew to ski with so you need to kind of be proactive to find some actual skiers and not bros that hit up groomers at Keystone on the weekends. The mountains are about 1.5 to 2 hrs away without traffic unless you hit up Eldora. If you stack your class schedule right you can do MWF classes and ski Tues and Thurs with no crowds. It may be hard to do freshman year through. The Stept Crew all went to CU and Matt Walker graduated there as well.

As for CU itself, the school is pretty dope. The campus is beautiful and even walking around at night is fun. Its a massive school and the default is partying 3+ days a week so you need to make sure to have some hobbies or activities because its easy to fall into a bad cycle. I know tons of Freshman that dropped out because they couldnt handle it. Education wise its kind of a burn and churn school with huge lectures Freshman and Sophomore year but once you get settled into your major it gets better with more interactive classes.

So many kids go down hard Freshman year at CU. We used to call it "Going Hollywood" because they try to live that TV college lifestyle and fuck themselves over. I will tell anyone going to college- Dont worry about doing crazy shit freshman year. Just go to class, snag some 'A's to pad your GPA and get used to dorm life and the new freedom you have. Sophmore year you have a lot more experience and classes are still pretty easy and you can have a lot more fun.

I got T/The classes or M/W/F classes and skied a TON at cu boulder. And this was before eldora didn't suck. I had lots of friends at cu who skied and met lots of friends who lived in summit as well.

If I could do it over again I would 100000% go to Western Colorado. Its 30 minuets from Crested Butte, about an hour away from monarch and you get access to places in the elks that get 600" of snow a year. If they have a good program your interested in I would for sure look at Western.

Boulder and Denver are great cities. But they're further from skiing than you'd think. Seattle, Portland, Sacramento, Reno, Boise, SLC, and even LA have more resorts closer to town than Boulder. Smaller college towns like Bozeman, Bellingham, Bend, Santa Fe, Gunnison, etc have some killer ski vibes. Something to think about

CU skiing is sick, you just have to find one of the three kids on campus that isn't still plastered from the night before

I graduated from Leeds. It's a good school, they offer lots of shit to students to learn and figure your path out. Like these other people said, I'd recommend joining CUFST or finding some older homies that ski a lot. "Going hollywood" is a great way to put it. Most of your friends that say they're super big skiers are going to join frats and nobody is going to ski that much. Something to keep in mind, you might even be the future fratstar, we don't know.

Other than Eldora, you are going to have a 4+ hour each way traffic filled drive to go ski summit county on the weekends.

check out CMU in Grand Junction or Western State in Gunnison if you want to go to an more affordable school in Colorado that is somewhat close to skiing.

Just to echo what everyone else has said - plenty of kids 'ski', but thad, bryson, and trent aren't gonna want to wake up in time to beat i70 traffic on the weekend.

Find what industries you might want to pursue a career in after school and see where those are located, and then cross reference the lists of potential schools and skiing from there. Part of what will make your school experience valuable is the relationship your school has with potential future employers, and that tends to trend with being nearby physically. The relationships and connections you make will be really important so cert consider that as you choose. Honestly you'll probably have a great time wherever you go.

Cu freeski club is awesome.

If you are mountain biker, climber, outside person, etc. Boulder is an epic place to be. The out of state tuition for CU tho is a fuckin robbery.
