How many mounts would you recommend?

I’m riding some 18 atris, and they are on their second mount now. I’ve been wanting to turn them into a touring setup with shifts, but I’m scared of going on the third mount.

Also if it does work then how does a 4th mount do for skis? I’ll probably upgrade once that ski goes dead to my go to rock ski, or sell it for cheap

Usually the standard is “3 mounts then done”. Some places won’t mount for a 4th time but it all depends. Honestly, just mount them then reevaluate for the 4th mount. Your biggest impediment will be the hole pattern overlapping with previous drilled holes.

Maybe ask the tech to take a look and tell you what he thinks when you get them remounted.

Most shops wont mount skis more then three times. Further more you are pushing it with a third mount as it could be hard to find a spot to mount your new bindings that doesnt already overlap with the existing holes. Were the first two mounts with the same bindings? If so that increases your chance of not having an issue.

Dope yeah so the first two were around rec line. Next mount I’m going +2 rec to give it some more freestyle. Then the 4th mount I’m just gonna say fuck it and mount it -2 from center, or +6 from rec. will be my test for the atris

It seems sort of pointless to put so many sets of holes in one ski. Also going +6 from rec on a ski like the Atris will really benefit you in no way, because the side cut and rocker profile are designed in a directional way, so all you’ll be doing is fighting sidecut. You also will have next to no stability because you’ll have so much of the camber behind you, so the ski will feel squirrelly and hooky in the tail

I don’t really have the money for another ski, but I’ve always wanted to try it at +2 rec from what I have seen. I was more exaggerating but I’ll mount it somewhere away from the holes.

it’ll just be a rock ski at that point so I don’t really care what would happen

When the shop fucked my skis up they let me ride them and they were new with 3 mounts and they are fine 😂

If you can mount them yourself there’s no limit to the number of mounts.

I went to see your tech but he was on smoke and told me to leave him alone

I gave a pair of older Chets to my friend.....must have had 4 mounts when I gave them away. Up to five after he mounted them. Gunna go for six this winter I think since he's got a pair of pivots laying around.


Been farting around with mounting two sets on them so we can nut to butt the pond skim next year. That'll be 8 mounts lol.

I think we should go for double digits

6 months old thread but honestly, I feel like How many mounts? is not the right question. If you follow the rule of thumb of 1cm between holes, then the question is: with my BSL, bindings mounting pattern, and mount point, do I have room to drill my skis?

And if not, maybe you can play a bit with your mounting point or with your heel piece adjustment to make it fit. I once printed a template on vellum (transparent) paper to figure out where to remount my over drilled loved sticks 😂, worked pretty well
