At this point im beginning to think the judges thought henriks 18 was a 14. That is the only logical explanation for how they could score it less than his 16.

Yeah I peeped on his ig that he had to pull out while announcing that he just got back riding after surgery as soon as I saw the lineup for snowboard knuckle huck. Glad to see him out there again but I totally understand why he pulled out bc it’s tough to do the shit he’s doing when your physical health isn’t 100 percent. Don’t see skiers bouncing around and twisting with their whole body like Zeb can.

LemuelKnuckle huck was..... boring. At least compared to last year. Jesper definitely deserved the win.

Honestly I found snowboard knuckle huck to be boring too. Hear me out but there was the one snowboarder riding all of the course and not hitting the actual knuckle and that just felt so... forced? Like it was cool but idk. It didn’t make sense to me. That said, some of those side hits were super cool. But I have to wonder if they weren’t considered for scoring purposes judging by who won and who didn’t (hard to say though because there were only two winners).

I don’t know. I like knuckle huck but even in year two it feels like people are competing for style and as a result things feel forced? Idk

Double post but whatever

I almost feel like knuckle huck would do better as an annual charity event. It’s only a cool comp when the vibe is genuine and skiers aren’t competing for prize money/a medal. I could be wrong but last year it just seemed like a new cool comp that people were stoked to be apart of and now it’s another event to compete in/win. Take away the edge of competition and let the tricks, progression throughout the event and overall vibe come naturally and I think it’d be sick. 🙂

Idea: The only way to fix judging in comps it to have the riders in the event judge each other. This is the fairest way to run it but does make some issues for the live streamed events. I think knuckle huck at least could use this system and would add to the loose fun vibe.

Idk dog I didn't see much competition this year in knuckle huck. That could have been cuz of no crowd less hype but I think the skiers to have something to motivate them so they still huck it but there needs to be a creative vibe so they don't just spin a 10 off the knuckle

TOAST.Wish henrik would have stayed in slope but done a super mellow stylish run with no doubles, kinda how he treated knuckle huck.

To be fair, it's an icy af course. Quite a bit different than spring slush skiing or even most normal skiing, where the snow is softer and your ski behaves more loosely. This landing was just simply too steep for knuckle huck. It needs to be longer and shallower, but really shouldn't use the big air jump. Aspen probably couldn't justify spending the money required for a larger venue where each event can have its own feature without crowds and the usual Xgames. It's just a covid year, it would be remembered as a weird one in history anyway.

WOW. Tuned out the last 36 hours there, then came to NS after watching Knuckle Huck and only even then saw this Henrik headline about pulling out of slope.



I see both sides of peoples arguments and everything in between. Folks have written some very interesting things on this. While I have no real opinion on the slope thing at this time... I will say dope to see Woodsy get to ski. That has yet to be mentioned, its not like no one got to ski in that spot at the end of the day...

One or two comments did get me thinking about Henriks skiing in Knuckle Huck.

At the time watching knuckle replay just now before I even knew he pulled out of slope, a few of his "runs" had me smiling broader than the others. His style... it gets me every time, even after 10 years of watching it.

Yeah those double backs were insane, A-Halls late 3 was mental & Jossis zeros were textbook, but Henriks skiing was there again. I think he had the best combinations with stylish airs. Could it in fact be.. he did win knuckle huck?

I dunno... put this way? If knuckle huck was judged primarily on style... tell me who beats Henrik.

PS. I love NS, always brings me back to the 2002 days when I read stuff on here. My favorite OG message board before anyone even knew what a social media was. Haha.

Idk, it does have huck in the name. And i sort of remember the knuckle and side hits really gain tracrion after markus cleveland threw a 1080 on a side hit or mogul on the way to the slope course at the US Open at vail in 2014. He started posting a lot more clips of similar cool hucks off small features, weird butters etc.

I think style is important but I didn't feel like Henrik did anything to stand out that much. Idk, there were some pretty cool tricks. Either way it's a goofy contest that doesn't really matter.

chills__Anyone else notice how bad some of the follow cams were? Especially on the womens side for big air. Like as a follow cam all you need to focus on is being close to the athlete and some were 10 seconds behind and then they wouldn't even switch the angle so you'd miss the trick

What i don’t get is that the x games have gimblegod do all the follows for the snowboarding side, why not have hotlaps do the skiing instead these crane rig homies pizza’ing down the inrun

I agree, henrik probably won if they judged by style. What’ll be really interesting is if they score style super high at next years knuckle huck. That was probably what they meant to do in the first place, inviting all these swerve skiers in aspen 2020.

First time I’ve posted in quite a while, however as a longtime but now retired member of the X Games athlete selection committee and judge for X Games Real Ski, I feel inclined to return to my roots on here by quickly chiming in with a simple take on judging based on my knowledge and experience…

As I’ve stated to countless athletes over the years, people who judge events are only human, and aren’t perfect, and can therefore make an arguable mistake on scoring as easily as an athlete can make an arguable mistake on a trick. Particularly at a competition that's televised live, where the pressure to provide a highly consequential decision at lightning speed that can potentially impact the event’s outcome and an athlete’s career is more intense than you could possibly realize, unless you yourself have had the opportunity to witness the dizzying environment of the X Games judging booth as either a judge or observer firsthand.

Judges should without question be held to a high standard, but being that judging can be subjective or objective depending on the individual, and there’s no such thing as perfection, if you don’t expect absolute perfection from an athlete’s performance, it’s not fair to expect it from the judges either. It is of course fair to be upset, express your opinion, and debate outcomes (all of which I strongly feel is incredibly important for our sport, as it shows the heartwarming amount of passion we all share for it), but I would politely suggest considering my points above before personally attacking judges—unless or until you’ve walked a mile in their shoes.

Just my two cents.

does anyone think the new format with the timer had an effect? Before judges could take their time and analyze each run, but now it's just go go go, and in knuckle huck sometimes people were droppin in before the replay (if there was any) ended. I feel like that would def make it more stressful on the judges. Even if the scores are dumb. The timer is also dumb.

I completely understand this for events like slopestyle where they have a matter of seconds to come up with a score based on an entire run, but this doesn't fly for knuckle huck where they have 15 minutes to come up with a single winner based on overall impression. If it was close between a few athletes, I get it, people might disagree, but snubbing such an obvious winner in an event like this means the judges 1- didn't have any idea what they were watching, 2- weren't watching, or 3- were given directives on how to award the gold.

I truly miss the suspense of waiting for a score to come in as the athlete stares up at a board. Is that not one of the best parts about watching on the edge of your seat and for the athlete when they come in with the decimal points they need?! Not to mention the transparency argument that is very much valid.

TBF knuckle huck isnt a "real" event, its a show for the audience and gives the athletes a fun event to mess around at. Obviously if you win you make money, but lets be real, the format is completely up in the air and as described to me by a judge of the event, if you land all of your attempts you basically win, it doesn't benefit people "hucking" its about who is more consistent, which completely ruins the event IMO. Landing every trick shouldn't matter, they should just give it to whomever sent it the hardest, watching every skier/snowboarder do a 180 or 360 in to some spin isn't entertaining.

I agree with this. If someone threw the absolute most insane truck off the knuckle and fell on every other attempt they should be getting the gold.

That's a good point when I was watching the snowboard knuckle huck the commentators noted how that girl was in a good position because of how consistent she had been the last 4 runs. She had literally done a 360 every run
