There have been some doozies but this would make the all time list for judging fuck ups. The context around henrik giving slope a miss because of the underscored sw18 make the optics even worse.

This is the issue with the ‘judges’ impression’ scoring, the transparency is not there. Give each run a score and then there’s less confusion as I can only assume the judges forgot to show up, were 5 pints deep at the bar when the event started and just texted in the result assuming that henrik did something cool having not watched any of it

timdrachanIm worried for ski knuckle huck, this years snowboard knuckle huck was fairly tame because the landing is so steep. Im still hyped to see the creativity flow but ngl i dont think well be seeing any switch dub backies this year. I would love to be proven wrong tho!

It's funny, I forget what event it was. Maybe womens ski or snbd big air? But it was a shot of a group of 4 girls all with red bull helmets lol. Never would have guessed it leaned the other way, not that I pay attention to it tho.

The.FishIt is literally called knuckle HUCK. Idk if ive ever seen a skier huck themselves as hard as jesper did tonight... besides that fabian quad 1980 from a few years back in practice.

People complain about andri hucking huge spins in the big air and winning because his skis are too short but then want massive hucks in a contest that could actually be based on style.

My thoughts on Knuckle Huck...

1) TW shouting out Newschoolers after Jossi's zero spin had me hyped and it's just so sick to watch him ski

2) Jesper got robbed (duh)

3) It seemed like nobody could get a "real" butter off the knuckle

4) Ferdi and Colby Stevenson would be 10x more appreciated if the had better kits (sorry, but it's true. They both had better tricks than Quan but I think he's just way more fun to watch)

5) AHall's tail-tap late 360 was sick

5) Controversial take: I dont watch a lot of comps but one of my favorite parts about watching them (and kuckle huck especially) is just to see how comfortable the pros are on their skis. Carving into the jumps, bombing the in-run and jumping to switch etc.....Fabian Bosch straight up did not look as comfortable on skis as the rest of those dudes. He obviously hucks, but his style totally reminds me of the gymnast "set and flip". The other dudes were hitting the QP, carving, jumping onto the berms, etc. but I swear on his first two runs he pizza'd his speed checks.

Yea the judging was a little messed up in big air but I think overall Henriks score was justified everyone was throwing down and you could tell that Henrik wasn't on his game from the get go and everything was pretty sloppy and on top of that wasn't progressive compared to what we've seen from him in the past.

As for knuckle huck, Jesper was robbed big time, Henrik shouldn't have even touched the podium and I'm sure he knows it and can probably expect some sort of response. Hopefully the judges revoke their childish peace offering and hand the medal over to the rightful owner. That was a massive fuck up, personal confrontation should never effect the overall scoring. I wish Henrik would've removed that medal immediately and overridden the judges.

Somehow Jesper gets robbed in like every contest. Always creative and stylish sending.

I actually had this same thought multiple times. So many athletes would just disappear behind the knuckle before the cameraman could get them back in the shot.

yeah overall filming quality def took a big step backwards this year.

I have no issues with Fabian having a super aerial style but I still think aerial arm tucked spins are ugly compared to something with a grab. I just have a hard time wrapping my head around the amount of hate andri gets when his jumps were nice and hes gotten better with style and hes not the most aerial guy with his big spins. Like you said though andri won so he has a target on his back although I still think andri would get hate no matter where he placed because this forum seems to hate him and has for years.

First off, I am enraged that the full broadcast of literally everything is on their youtube EXCEPT MF MENS SKI SLOPESTYLE. Second, I don't think Nick Goepper should've won because he bobbled that first rail every single freaking run.

Giving Henrik a 38 (idk if you can look at this way but a 76% of C grade basically) for a perfectly done switch dub bio 1800, which has never been done before in competition, was truly fucked. Totally insulting. Like either the judges had no idea what was going on, at best, or at worst had it out for Henrik in some way, is it because he is not as clean cut as others, a little louder and possibly seen as obnoxious to some for all the barking and stuff? Honestly that is pretty speculative but I am just at a loss about how they could fuck that up so badly, seems more fucked than any robbery I can remember in recent history (other than the Jesper robbery but that's a whole different discussion lol). It's not like Henrik was saying he needed the gold or to be on the podium or anything, but he just brought attention that on that one hit the judging was totally unacceptably fucked. At best judging was off and at the worst almost targeted. That needed a 45+ bare minimum.

So Henrik bows out of slope. To everyone saying that he's all in it for the 'love of skiing' is probably still mostly true, but I think everyone knows that Henrik is also highly competitive which is part of the reason why he's one of the most decorated comp skiers of all time. Also, that slope course was ridiculous (two massive shark fin features?), and to expect Henrik to throw dub bios against shark fins or whatever else he would want to throw "for fun" if he maybe had the feeling that the judges had it out for him and he wouldn't get scored accordingly is ridiculous and unfair to Henrik. As some others have said, Henrik is not your monkey that needs to be at the start gates 5 minutes early of any event he is invited to for your viewing pleasure. Also, Henrik is getting a little older for a comp skier at 29, and if he has all the medals one could ever want, when he feels rightfully the scoring is obviously fucked up against him, his self-preservation might have kicked in to want to not go at his absolute hardest at this insane two shark finned slope course to go do all he wants to accomplish in filming later in the year.

To the theory that it is a "right of passage" to get completely robbed at times, and that you should just soldier on and make sure to be 5 minutes at the start gate to any event that X Games has been gracious enough to extend you an invite to, why?! These guys prepare all over the world and risk their lives and bodies and to just accept the status quo that sometimes you get a 38 or a 76% or grade for doing something that is pushing the sport to the next level is actually totally unacceptable! The judges should be at least trying to take the judging as seriously as these guys take the skiing. Could that be corrected in some way with like a rescoring feature or some sort of additional judge auditing? Should there maybe be preliminary scoring that gets finalized in like a 10-15 minute review session after the event? If there is anyone to take a stand to counter that sort of thing from happening, wouldn't it be Henrik?

Anyway and then the Knuckle Huck happens and Henrik shows up because that is probably a lot less taxing of an event than the major slope course. He doesn't go too hard at it (although he had some pretty dope and unique hits) and gets a gold out of nowhere. Two wrongs don't make a right. I don't see it as Henrik strong arming X Games for a medal. Henrik just went to the event and skied and maybe didn't go as hard as he could have, what did he do wrong? X Games should have a totally arbitrary and as unbiased as possible system of judging not affected by what events certain athletes bow out of for whatever reason lol.

Maybe Henrik didn't realize the extent of his influence on the X Games and viewership. Maybe he didn't set the best example by quitting when he "didn't get what he wanted". But the judges did really slap him in the face with that 38 score and was more out of wack than most robberies I can remember in recent history (again other than the Jesper one lol) and he really is transitioning more to a film skier in recent years anyway and doesn't need the X Games and results as a more senior competitor at this point. I think Henrik provides enough positive reinforcement for the skiing community in other ways and I think we need to look at the skiers more as humans rather than action figures that we can freak out at for not being at the start gate with a big smile and a winning attitude at any given time regardless of outcome.

Ideally there would be a seperate big air and slope courses and knuckle huck off the big air. One side with the added lip for combo tricks and the other smooth. Having one feature shaped for 3 different events did not work but this is if (hopefully) abnormal.

I sort of get what you mean about how it looks 'flow wise', and you do see the odd switch pizza... but Fabian is an insanely good skier. He is probably one of the best in fact. I can't remember exactly the details, but I think he was national or even world champion in slalom when he was like 14. Swiss Ski were basically begging him and his family not to switch to freestyle.

Upon further reflection/TLDR - Don't blame Henrik blame X Games. But I hate punching bag the X Games so much as the financials behind this event are dubious at best on a year like this year (no Dew Tour this year) and regardless of how much they fuck up I'd hate for our Super Bowl to go away lol

I assume it is mostly teenage angst amongst the younger crowd. We all did it to some group or another as teenagers either because people were different or because were just jealous of them.

I'm rewatching Big Air right now, and Henrik says "pull out" at the bottom of his last hit. Definitely wondered what it meant when he said it, just put it together that he was talking about slopestyle.

ABM's octo to octo was best trick of the night for big air in my opinion.

I think Henrik provides enough positive reinforcement for the skiing community in other ways and I think we need to look at the skiers more as humans rather than action figures that we can freak out at for not being at the start gate with a big smile and a winning attitude at any given time regardless of outcome.

End rant, just wanted to at least attempt to put all my thoughts on this weird occurrence somewhere lol.

I agree with a ton of stuff said here, I think that the x games needs to release some sort of statement regarding this years judging and then we can all pretend that this whole thing was a bad dream
