How has your season been? Mine is shaping up to be about 75% solo and this year it kinda sucks since you only ride with your group. Newfound lift friends are nearly a thing of the past right now.

How has your season been changed? What are you doing to keep the stoke high?

I've been about 50/50. I have one friend who I've been riding with on weekend trips. Anytime we go together we've been getting tested beforehand which has been pretty easy in Denver. Other than that, solo days.

haven't been too crazy different for me. that being said i work at a resort and am constantly running into people i vaguely know during solo laps. so i guess i haven't really been skiing with too many true randoms but ive definitely been able to put names to familiar faces which is always good :)

Pretty solid tbh, I feel like I have progressed more than I have in past seasons... but kinda sucks when its cold as balls and ur sitting on the lift like the Bernie meme without any homies to keep u warm

I've been crashing a lot less. My body simultaneously feels better than ever (no bad crashes) and worse than ever (out of shape) and the snow has been pretty abysmal, but I've seemed to catch most of the good days. Not the best year, but I have been grateful for what I can get.

I desperately want to pack a car full of homies, rip around the resort maskless jumping off everything we can find, and then drink a bunch at a bar after.


alas. Instead I’m alone and bumping tunes or skiing with my wife and going to bed at 830pm. Def miss skiing with randos from the lift also.

kind-of been lone rangering it for the past few years, but this season has been interesting to say the least, but still find time to go ski with friends when we can, we're just super busy with work and life/adulting obligations.

like its understandable a group who carpooled and traveled to the resort together may not want a solo rider riding up with them on the chair in fear of them being sick or something but idk, its also lame having to waltz through a huge line only to ride up solo and be "that guy" who took up an entire chair on a busy day haha. I guess what im saying is for the groups that arent cool with taking strangers up on the chair with you, you should probably not go skiing and stay home if you're worried about getting sick. cuz we're all in the same boat at this point

Vibes to solo riders this year, I've cruised up alone a couple times to meet up with homies and going through one lift line solo sucked, its definitely better with headphones but the lift line has been the worst for sure.

Pretty much always roll solo. Definitely miss lift rides with rando's. Can get pretty boring on the chair.

Been about 75% solo and the rest with the wife. Don’t know any skiers here other than her. Plus side is that my rail game is progressing fast because I just lap the park on the t bar. Thank god local resort only has T bars. Makes being a single a lot easier.

I miss riding with the homies for sure though. In the summer I lived at the resort in Aus and could find someone to ride with at all times. The stoke was always high.
Very different now. Music is my hype man.

Not bad, I ride at COP and people still talk to each other like normal in the park but I haven't exchanged a single word with people on the lift. No lift lines most days so I get lots of laps in but never try anything that hard cause there's no homies to hype me up. Only difference is that without friends to ride with I feel like I'm always the oldest person in the park, at 23 I have 7 or 8 years on almost everyone so I never start conversations.

98% solo. and loving it!

I ran into 2 friends on different days and rode up the lift with them. then i ditched them to be alone.

I ski about half my days with my friends and half I just hike rails, which has helped my progress a lot. This year because of crowds and lack of park features, I’m getting really creative with my runs down the mountain. Also just bought like half of home depot’s stock of pvc since I wanna do rails but don’t always feel like driving a half an hour to do it alone

It's unhealthy because constantly believing you are sick, before COVID, would be considered psychosis. It's unhealthy because driving down I70 is way more fucking dangerous than catching COVID for almost everyone on this site.

The average person believes they have a 10% chance of dying from COVID and a 20% change of catching it. (Source USC).

The true rate of death is around 0.2% (Source CDC) The means the average person overestimate their risk by 50x. That's unhealthy.

To stay on thread though, solo half the time and gf the other half.

Agree 100%. The farce of the lift line needs to end. Being outside with a bunch of generally healthy people is not a risk. If you're at risk, you shouldn't be skiing. Been calling out people taking pics of long lines too. Don't be posting that shit and getting us all 'cancelled'.

Also, relatively easy to read which people are cool or not. People wearing medical-like masks are generally psychos and say nothing on the lift. People being loose with neck-gators generally talk and half vent on how stupid all this shit is...

i also only ski when there are less people around e.g, in the early mornings. all lifts also solo.

Been teaching more than ever this year so I guess I'm always skiing with someone lol. Taking a lot less time for fun since weekdays have been abnormally busy for midwest standards and a lot of that time is solo it feels. I accepted back in December that this will not be one of those seasons to remember so I guess I'm okay with it.

i always have 3-5 surgical masks with me plus a little plastic bag where i put them after use. a bit too much maybe but whatever.

Look, this upsets me because in my view, people like you are what is going to keep us from going back to normal. Elimination strategies are much more damaging than helpful after community transmission is prominent. The media has essentially created a bunch of germaphobes who are incapable of assessing cost benefits.

If you are really afraid of getting or transmitting COVID to this level, you probably just need to stay home. The reality is skiing is an extremely low risk activity. You're outside, you're in the sun, you're in the cold. Respiratory virus DO NOT TRANSMIT in any significant way in this environment. Period.

Additionally, the MAJORITY of deaths are people already in end-of-life care. That means you will generally not meet at-risk people on the mountain. Young people are more likely to be killed in a car accident, in a single year of driving, than from COVID. Not to mention we're all wearing masks outside, which we know work amazingly well outside...

In sum, I really hate what you're a proxy for, not actually you as a person. I don't really believe in bitching and telling people their own personal choices are stupid, but I am 100% sure you do not feel this way about small businesses that want to be open and poor children that want to be in school.

I'll keep getting banned if I say stuff like this though, and I recognize I'm not in the majority...

And beyond the long thing I wrote, do you realize you are FARRR more likely to die from heart disease or cancer right? So why don't you go and get your entire body scanned? Check for all the common types of cancer and any clogged arteries?

This would be really easy to do right? Why not just go in and do it?

Car accidents, heart disease, and cancer aren't contagious. Clogged arteries aren't contagious.

I'm not looking for respect. I'm looking for people to recognize how a lot of this stuff doesn't make sense.

Worrying so much about COVID that you get tested constantly, yet still driving 120 miles to go skiing with people, shows a very clear lack of logical consistency.

Most people on this site are more at risk from driving in a single year than from COVID. If a few people would just recognize this, it would make me feel a lot better.

The majority of us are going to die of heart disease are cancer. The person I replied to is worried about getting COVID, not just transmitting it. But do they go get cancer screenings all the time? Checks on their hearth health? Probably not.

Honestly, if you want to get tested all the time, no skin off my back. But those same people are forcing other people to follow their insane fear.

Seriously, what did I say indicates I need to be back to school. I said I lot on this thread, but you particularly responded to two facts:

1. Young people are more at risk from car accidents than from COVID
2. Outdoor transmission of respiratory viruses is extremely difficult. Even coughing without a mask outside is low-risk, much less only breathing and with a mask on.

Dude again, I literally just want to talk about facts rather than having people go 'I get tested everyday' and everyone clapping like that makes any reasonable sense.

I just want to go back to normal, but instead people like you are making us all pretend getting on a chairlift with strangers is more dangerous than driving 80 mph down I70.

And I get called stupid multiple times for even suggesting that at some point, this has to stop.
