WoFlowzMost places stopped putting money/as much money into parks because it isn’t as profitable in most places
theabortionatorI mean pretty much every mtn has a park now and that wasnt a thing. Jumps are better built across the board, rail dimensions and set ups that make sense. Sure places arent as likely to gro rogue and build a 60 foot gap for no reason in the public park, but how good were some of thise builds actuslly. Some places have def gone soft, but parks are better across the board that they previously were for sure. Unless you like pipes then you might be salty.
WoFlowzYeah parks haven definitely gotten more wide spread and better built. I mean as in the size like my mtn used to have a 3 pack of two 45ft step downs then a 35ft step up. Ig what I also mean is a lot more ski areas have started putting less money into larger parks and more innovative/sketchy features
theabortionatorI mean inovative and sketchy don't always have to go hand in hand. But yeah shit changes. Also less stepdowns and safer more fun jumps were a good trend in my opinion. It's a weird year though. Idk it sucks when your local gets nerfed. Beat thing you can do is try and give good suggestions in a non douchey way. Understanding that they're trying especially if small operation. I mean hell jumps were built by hand a lot of places for a long time.
Idk if your local sucks maybe try and get on the park crew and makes some possitive changes. Also if you suggest things to them don't be a dick about it.
It's 2021 though. Park building on the basic level isnt exactly rocket science, or shouldnt be.
little1337Dude parks used to be so much more intense I feel like. I remember the dfd's from the early 2000's had like 45 degree kinks.
WoFlowzYeah I’m not old enough cause New York has super struck labor laws I def will try in a few years. I’ve been sending the park crew drawing of my ideas in the parks we have and they have thrown a few up which is nice theirs just a bit of a disconnect from upper management from what I’ve heard
theabortionatorSounds like the ice coast scene i remember. What mountain you ride?
I worked at gore, west, and oak for for like 15 years between them. Rode a lot of the mtns, did a lot of night skiing as well.
But yeah. It sucks if your local isn't delivering. It's not much consultation but it coukd always be worse(usually). Have seen decent park programs all but disappear.
Also if jumps are whack or rail setuos are weird(and they arent being lazy but just honestly don't know) pictures can be super helpful.
If they dont know what a good jump or rail setup looks like other than replicating some whack 90s shit then showing them csn be helpful. Some of these small mtns have really good operators that can build stuff decent if they know what they're building.
Some also have crusty fuckers that will try to fight you for talking to them. So approach woth caution. Don't make any sudden movements lol.
Good luck man!

Dustin. And the jumps were basically thrown together with a shovel, good luck! At least shopping for park skis was easy since there weren't any options.
theabortionatorLiterally qere. You'd get a bladeful of snow if you were lucky. And how much the jump looked like a hump depended in the guy with the shovel. Also steep landings? Lololol never heard of em
Peter.yeah man even like flat bars would be 15 feet off the ground and needed a huge kicker to get onto the rail. i remember riding through killington's park way back in the day and seeing massive rainbow rails etc and wondering who hits these things
SuspiciousFishAnyone else remember the wood parks from back in the day? At Schweitzer they had a crazy rail setup and everything was made out of wood and trees and stuff. It was really only for snowboarders but it was pretty crazy. That and Battleship rails that were super steep, I feel like you dont really see those as much anymore.

theabortionatorThis battleship had to have been at least 40' long and super steep on both sides.
