Opinion thread: best ski/binding setup under $700?

Title says it all. I’m gonna be in the market soon. Mostly park/urban atm so durability is key. but hopefully will get back out to the powder at some point too so some floatiness would be nice too. Also, currently have look nx10s and they are nice but I want something that goes up to at least 12.

you can pretty much get anything for 700 as long as you aren’t getting the pivot 18

Wets have better float than a lot of powder skis imo. Wet + if you wanna hit jumps/go fast. Any binding I've used other than pivots made the ski feel kinda dead cause the ski couldn't flex under foot.

For 700 you can get a nice used pair for park and another for pow if you look around

Save your self and dont get Factions. Most of their skis are known to break, I have friends who have broken them and I see them often broken. If you happen to get them, get the Candide 5.0, but they are more than $700 so not really an option.

Dude wat he said he’s skiing mostly park/urban, and “would like to get back in the pow,” he didn’t say he wanted a boat. Also why even mention a ski that’s above his ski/binding budget 😂

Yes, I was just trying to say that most of the Faction skis under 5.0 have a bad reputation. I wasn’t trying to recommend them because they are a hefty price tag. If you go with Faction then you go with Faction, just trying to give a view with personal experience from friends and the internet. I understand at what you’re trying to get at though, they definitely aren’t a jib ski 😂

Also giving internet opinions really doesn’t mean anything, personal experience is one thing but regurgitating “my factions broke” isn’t advice. The CT 2.0 and 3.0 had reputations for being lower quality and A. They were the only common ones to see, B. The Prodigy series has been largely popular within park skiers because they’re durable and C. They fixed the construction

arv 96 is THE pick for an affordable, "do it all but mainly freeride park rails" ski. the 86 is great too but won't be quite as "do it all" and won't ski soft snow quite as well

pivot 12s are great, if it's important to you for your bindings to be lighter or cheaper, get tyrolia attack 13s

Well good to know. I didn’t know they fixed some of the cores. If they do happen to break they at least have a good warranty. Both of my friends that owned the factions had CT 3.0 and 4.0s and broke them within a season after doing park laps and freeride. Yes, this is an opinion but there is enough evidence I have found to back it. I’m not trying to start an argument and I didn’t know they fixed the cores, that changes my opinion a fair amount.

Maybe float wasn't the right word but I use my wets over my JJ's on 9 out of 10 pow days. The rocker lets you shift your weight around a lot without nosediving. Imo waist deep powder is pointless if you're only gonna float on the top foot. Crazy steep and deep/pillow lines might be different in that respect but I haven't once wished I had a wider ski when using them.

If you're patient, you can find some killer used deals. I picked up my Wildcat 108s with Pivot 18s for $600 last summer. Had less than 10 days on them.
