New boots binding adjustment

So I'm thinking about getting a new pair of boots. I recently got new skis with Pivots which I've been skiing on for a few weeks. If I get new boots (my foot size hasn't changed, I have Atomic boots so it would probably be a different brand), what are the chances I'd have to have my bindings full redrill adjusted? I think bindings have a little bit of adjustment you can do to them without redrilling.

Also, if I had to get them redrilled, is that possible? Idk too much about how it works but I would think you can't just redrill a few mm off because it will be basically the same holes. I'm also not sure whether redrilling would compromise the integrity of the ski. Do shops close those up with something?

You need to find the BSL of the both boots, pivots have something like 2-3mm(?) adjustment in the heel piece legs. In my experience, I had some pivots mounted for a 306mm bsl boot, then got a new boot in 308mm bsl and the connection was the same, with no adjustment

Chances are you wont need a remount, the boot sole length (always in mm) shouldent be super different between brands of the same size boot.

No they have more like 6 or 7. I mounted a pair for a 304bsl and got a 310 boot in without a remount

you can check this up front!

check your BSL, then also measure it for good .. measure (pun intended)

check the adjustment where in the range you are, if unsure, post all pics here

find the new boot that fits you, then check BSL and measure that as well.

I just did the same thing a few weeks back. I went from a 310 BSL TO A 305 BSL. Was wondering if I was going to have to remount. As you probably already know, pivots have 3 different grooves on the forward pressure. When I was riding the 310 my heel piece was just looser than the middle groove. When I went to the 305 I was lucky and was able to tighten the forward pressure not quite all the way to have the proper adjustment for my new boots. It all depends on how much the bsl is increasing/ decreasing. Also depends on where your bindings are currently adjusted. From what I’ve seen it’s usually +-3 mm adjustment on the heel piece.

Thanks for all the advice guys. How bad is it if I have to end up remounting? Like should I go into this telling the boot fitter I need a specific range of BSL so I don’t have to remount?

Also, if I get a boot with a small enough BSL difference, will it technically shift my mount a little or is it so small I shouldn’t care?

No get a boot that fits your foot, there’s a good chance you won’t need a remount.

Unless the skis have three mounts a remount isn’t a big deal

and yes it will shift your mount but unless you are an elite level racer you aren’t going to notice. all you’ll notice is how good your feet feel in custom insoles and well fitted boots

If you’re purchasing boots from a fitter it’s pretty easy to negotiate a free mount too

Update: great advice from everyone here.

Went to the bootfitter, got a new pair. Old boots were bought online. The difference in boots is night and day... night and a few days. What an idiot I was to buy online. Went from BSL 330 to 310, dropped a size, significant reduction in width, these new ones fit so much better. I'm an idiot.

Anyway, Shop remounted both pairs of skis for free and said it was no problem for 1 remount so overall I'm glad I went for it anyway.

The moral of the story? Just go to a bootfitter and remount the skis if needed.

haha damn bruv! sadly this story is true, even for going to "big box" stores here

buddy went from a 29.5 to 27.5

gf from 27 to 26

buddys gf from 26 to 24 etc....

common thing is they are all very slow edge to edge, and have no real edge control.

Yeah mine when they up a half DIN from the difference in BSL.

304-310 there’s no difference in chart placement
